Zoomed out

in #poetry3 years ago (edited)

Once upon a time
Screen-chatting was fiction.
But now things are different,
Now it is here,
Such a form of communication!

Once only comics
And tales of the future,
Showed make-believe people
Videophone
Another make-believe character.

A pandemic came.
Fiction became real.
I was told "just use zoom!"
What was a dream
Came true; I embraced it with zeal.

I tutored students
From my home, quite afar.
I enjoyed it a lot.
The semester
Went well, but sometimes chats were sub-par.

The next semester
I went to the meeting
Virtually, of course,
And I was told
"We will use Teams; Zoom we are leaving!"

"Why?" I asked, confused.
"Did Zoom not work just fine?"
"Teams will work better!" They said
With no reason
Given. With much derision, I hopped on line,

Then I was told-
"Use Discord; It's cooler!"
I longed for zoom again.
Though I admit,
Next to Teams, I find Discord simpler.

Then I was told
By an interviewer,
"Use telegram okay?"
I longed for Zoom!
"ENOUGH!" I cried, my heart turned bluer.

Interview cancelled,
I hope to land others,
I should have said "Let's zoom! It works!"
But alas, I can't have my druthers!
