RE: The Old Man (An Original Poem)

in #poetry2 years ago

As always: beautiful, moving and thoughtful. There are so many people who fear old age that coming across this poem is almost a revelation to me. In this day and age, and especially in countries like mine, very few people live to be old: the average lifespan is 65 years. So getting to old age can be an achievement! When I imagine myself as an old woman, I imagine myself as a tree: that it has already given fruit, shade, that its roots will live forever and that its branches have reached the sky. A beautiful text to start the week, Eric. A hug and thank you

Thank you Nancy. Life expectancy isn't what it used to be here in the U.S. either, it's actually going down. I think it's possible to age gracefully though. I've watched many people around me achieve it. I think it's a combination of moderation/movement throughout life and staying engaged and genuinely interested in the world, that unquenchable curiosity, you know? A tree, what a beautiful analogy for aging! I hope you enjoy your week and thanks again for your comment.
