My poetry submission in response to a want-ad for "Creative Writer"

in #poetry7 years ago (edited)

Several months ago I responded to a want-ad for a "creative writer." The ad contained several grammatical errors and asked that anyone applying for the job should mention in their cover letter how many errors they found. I submitted a poem rather than a cover letter. I never heard back, but thought I would share the poem I submitted here on Steemit.

Re: errors in grammar, your ad possessed six,
(and a sentence and phrase in the bullets don't mix).

Now, to answer your questions, my schooling was thus:
a degree earned in English, linguistics, and plus,

all the work on my masters in writing creative
was straight 4.0 in its grade qualitative.

(But before I could finish my masters I strayed,
and that's why it's not listed, nor now resume'd.)

So, how much can I write every day or per week?
As much as required, as much as you seek.

I typically write 750 per day
for an informal post that informs or persuades.

What's my style? There are several. I once claimed to be
just a technical writer for AT&T.

But awards for my poetry, several I've won,
and my textbook on econ was cleverly done.

Now then, when can I start? Tout de suite! Anyhow,
that's to say I'm available right here and now.

Sort:

Twain-esque.

That was a great poem! You should've at least gotten a contact from it. Now I'm very interested in going over to look at your economics textbook.

They are punks for not hiring you!!
But I am glad you shared the poem! That was awesome and got a chuckle or two!

Hope all is well!!
Peace

Love it, so very creative. Can't believe you didn't get at least a tongue-in cheek response at the very least. Some folks go no humor in the bones. Thanks for sharing your world with us. Have a nice day as well.

Yeah! This is so good of you to post. Sad, they couldn't see the potential or your capability. Or perhaps, it could be sign of being 'over-qualified'. You'll have bigger things coming in @geke, I believe.

Awww!!! I love this! I totally would have hired you.

I would have hired you in a hot second ;)

Wow. lovely, I am searching some good contents and people like you. I love to write poems and i got some very good influence by your post. thanks for chatting with me in the discord Chanel too. you are simply kind and helpful, thanks dear

This is so well done. I can't believe they did not contact you! I used to be on hiring committees and I would have wanted to meet you and connect at the very least.

Aw... thank you @fitinfun! That's nice of you to say. Oh well. I have more fun here, anyway. 😃

Agreed. However, I'd wager on 2 points:

  1. The 4.0 could be intimidating.
  2. If they weren't interested in this, it might have been a stylistic bad fit even in prose.

Good point! If they were not curious to meet this author, what kind of place could it be?

Unfortunately, I also have to remind myself of that right now as I'm still between jobs.

I taste a little Seuss sprinkled hither and yawn. LOL

Fabulous one!!!

Thank you for posting this lovely moment in time for you. Followed...

well job ,great post ...your pic is so sexy

Being a person who gives free rein to his sense of humour (which luckily is subtle rather than slapstick)I have often been given a cold look and rebuffed. This means that either my humour is not as subtle as I thought, or else, it is too subtle. So, I can empathise, but it also predisposes me to liking you.

Oh dear! The last photo above just opened and I noticed two very interesting facts: You write for ZeroHedge! That is wonderful and I'll keep an eye out for your articles.

Second point comes with a tiny story: At Gab, I saw people worried about vaccinating their kids, worried about the indoctrinating of their kids and so on. Most of them, both parents work, so they cannot homeschool.

I suggested they find a total of ten to fifteen parents who feel the same way; maybe if they find one who is not working, they can agree that parent does not contribute to covering costs for their own child(ren), maybe even is paid a small amount, so as to make a room available for the kids; employ someone to look after their kids and do small things like feed them (food from parents), and help them when they do not understand the lesson of the day from the homeschooling teacher.

They became excited so I looked up for them Attorneys who have a scheme, like paying a small insurance fee, and if you have any problems with authorities they handle it for you.

I would love to write a full post for providing the link to them so that they can read more about the ways they can solve their problems, but my big problem is that, good intentions apart, I am not an American and live in S Africa. I need someone who knows or can find the information to work with me in creating such a paper so that we make it easier for the parents who desperately want to keep their children away from the new ways of teaching - which includes the sex transgender stuff, plus islam and being taught to pray to Allah. I am aware that the rules are not the same in all the States.

Apart from the USA, parents in Canada are also interested.

Could you help, or suggest someone who can?
