a lifetime to
learn that
I’m wise enough
to realize
I’m not nearly
wise enough.
my defenses
for these were
proverbial fences,
and fear was the
impenetrable lock
on the garden’s gate.
present now
with nothing
left to lose,
nothing to prove,
my soul
stripped bare
by humility.
ride your waves
for I’ve found
my bliss
and the garden is
like some warm,
sweet kiss
that floods
my empty
spaces
and leaves
me longing
for you,
only you...
or nothing
at all.

Lovely poem. Sometimes I wonder how you manage to compose these poems intelligently
Thanks @mandate! Just lots and lots of practice, over twenty five years.
Thats a long time .. that is as old as i am
25 years!! You certainly should be and must be good then
Longer really. I'm 49 years old and have been writing since I was 19.
That is definitely a long time. You should celebrate 30 years anniversary of writing
Yes, that's a great idea! Maybe international travel will be open to Americans by then.
Very nice. I like poems that have a little bit of rhyme but not too much so it is totally on the nose. This was a really great read! Nice job!
Thank you @bozz!
Gorgeous poem and one that rings true for a lot of us.
I appreciate that!
Hi Eric, how are u doing? What a poem that is very beautiful to read. I think that's the expression of your heart about this life ... Have a nice day, Eric.
Thank you very much! The week is going pretty well so far, Eliana. How are you?
Outclass bro..
Thanks.
What a beautiful poem you bring us today, Eric! My eyes are tied to the first and last verse. We are a bottomless pit of contradictions: we like life best, when we are closest to death; we want more time, when the sun threatens to hide; we learn to swim alone in shipwrecks and lose our fear when we have lost all battles.
It is always good to read you. Nice Tuesday for you...
Thank you Nancy! Oh, you are so right...a bottomless pit of contradictions. I feel like the more present we are the less contradictory we become. I'm glad you enjoyed this one! I hope you're having a great week.
An excellent poem. It makes you think about the meaning of life.
Thank you!
how are you dear friend @ericvancewalton good afternoon
What a beautiful composition, life is a constant learning, therefore, there is never so much what we live to learn, there are always situations where we are vulnerable due to lack of learning, but there lies the issue of life, which would be it if we had nothing more to learn.
Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful composition.
have a wonderful night
The week is going pretty well so far, I hope it's been the same for you! Thanks for reading and commenting @jlufer! Enjoy the rest of your week.
The first verse juxtaposed itself by all means and it was beautiful. I love the way it emphasized on the stages of time of one's life to bring about wisdom. It's a beautiful piece, I'll say the best I've read you've written.
Thank you man! All stages of life bring lessons but the ones that come in middle age are really profound. I can only imagine they get even more profound as we get older. So glad you enjoyed this one!
This is really beautiful. I love your writings. I'm also a poet. You've got great content.
Thank you! I'll check out your blog!
@ericvancewalton, We create so many Illusionary Barriers and huge Illusionary Walls Of Control for ourselves.
But in reality we should let go of these Illusionary Barriers, Baggages and Control.
Keep writing indepth Poetry Pieces.
Have a abundant and peaceful time ahead and stay blessed always.
Thanks! Peace to you as well!
Welcome and thank you so much.
How freeing to have lost the arrogance of youth when we believe we 'know it all!' Life teaches us lessons time and time again, I believe until the time comes that we finally close our eyes and say goodbye to this world!
Thank you for sharing your poetry with us.
Oh yes! Once we lose that arrogance we open ourselves up to true wisdom. I feel the same way about this world, it's a schoolhouse for the soul....all the world's a library, each person a book. Thanks for your support and friendship!
Wow! This is such a good read. I love poems. I hope to write lots of poems, compile and then bind it.
Thank you! Poetry collections are fun to put together. Before Steemit/Hive I used to publish collections once a year. I would hand bind the books and sell them online.
Wow! It's a huge achievement! Sadly, I wasn't thinking that way. I lost the poems I wrote when I was still in high school. Steemit made me realized that I should bind my poetry collections and keep it. Hopefully, I will be able to bind it this year. I should write more so I can reach my quota. Thank you for sharing your poems.
I'm sorry to hear that! Best of luck in meeting your quota. I'm sure it'll happen in no time. Hive is a great motivator to create. Thanks so much for your support!
There are some things you just read and you just feel good at the moment. This is one of them .. the beginning of this poem made me smile immediately
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Truer words are rarely spoken.
Youth is wasted on the young. ; )
That's so very true. :-(
Another simple yet elegant writing of yours. I always like when poetry is relatable and real not just a combination of big words. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment!
This is simply magnificent. You did a great job here, love it.
Thank you @gandhibaba.
Beautiful poem - wow.
Thanks!
