through illusion,
picking away at us
again and again.
they can't be seen,
but it's always just
one small thing
that wakes us up.
in an atmospheric instant,
we're forced to recall
the big and small
of who we are
underneath it all.
the weight of our heart
and the ache that shakes us,
a gasp of breath taken
by each generation.
we have settled
for small luxuries
instead of our big dreams.
we truly live
our second chances,
it seems...
only then.

So true. "Only then do we feel
the weight of our heart
and the ache that shakes us" these words touched me so much. Thanks to share your poem.
Thank you Silivia! I'm glad the words resonated with you!
I love truth telling and keep picking away at it again and again, hoping that maybe it will make some folks light bulbs go off.
You and I take different approaches though. I can barely write three good sentences in row let alone try to compose it poetry form while you are the master of poetry. Very well done my friend, very well done.
All the best,
Sult
I really appreciate that, Sult! Poetry is my favorite genre to work in, really...well, maybe second favorite after short stories. You're a much better writer than you give yourself credit for! Your writer's voice is engaging and strong. Thanks for the support!
Thank you as well Eric.
What a beautiful poem, Eric ... does it describe the current situation ? But I'm sure one day it will change. Time rotates like a wheel. Have a nice day, sir
Thank you Eliana! This poem, in general, just speaks about life circumstances that act as a catalyst to wake us up to a truth.
beautiful writing.
I am so happy to finally be back to one of my favourite communities!
Thanks, Ani! I’m very glad to see you back!
same here :)
Untill people or situations around us forces us to remind us of who we are, we continue to live in ignorance of who we really are and what we are
Very true!
I could virtually paint how it feels to be be or live in ignorance, but then snapping out of it is bliss and coming to true realisation. Beautiful piece here Eric.
Thank you @josediccus!
Good to enjoy this poem after a long time hope you are all good :)
Thank you @blazing. All is as good as could be expected during these crazy times! I hope you and your family are all well too!
Very nice! I really like your stuff like this. Not that I don't like your other stuff. What I am saying is your poetry is really deep, but easy to read. I have read some stuff where it is hard just to get through it because you are struggling to find a ton of meaning in it. Yours is very accessible!
I really appreciate that @bozz! I try to keep my ideas as distilled as possible in my poetry. Still, sometimes, others take on different interpretations. I'm glad to hear that it's relatable!
Your poetry always makes one think Eric. We should never settle for second best not so!
Take good care of yourself.
I'm glad to hear that @lizelle! Thank you for reading and for your reply!
Beautiful and true lyrics dear .
Thank you!
