Montreal, Mon Souvenir (An Original Poem)

in #poetry7 years ago (edited)

Though I must leave,
the dust of you
is still on my feet,
mon souvenir.

In my memories,
you are filled
with splashes
of abstract color,
an easy smile
and, like a soft,
sheer curtain,
dancing freely
in the wind.

Time so easily passes
on a sidewalk cafe,
sipping a glass
of Bordeaux
that shimmers, like
a jewel in the sun.

The cathedral bell
rings thrice as
an endless parade
of souls pass by
on cobblestone streets,
with each step traveling
closer to their
sacred destinies.

Montreal, you possess
a certain beauty that
makes one wish
they were immortal
and I feel the
sheer joy of all the
other ghosts
and raise my
glass to them.

Despite what
darknesses dare
to descend on
this world, it will
seem a little brighter...
my faith in humanity
will be restored
each time I recall
a place like you exists.

poetry came from heart

Montreal, Mon Souvenir is a beautiful salute to a place where great memories were made. It is always so nice to get away in a totally different place where you get to experience beautiful cobblestone roads and wonderful people. A place with timely buildings and sights to see where you don't want to leave. That is a truly a wonderful example of getting away for a brief experience in paradise of better times. Thank-you for sharing!

Thanks, @cabbagepatch, this was a really nice break. I wasn't prepared for the history and culture I found there. Montreal exceeded my expectations in almost every way. It was also a little glimpse of the future, I worked on the film nearly ever day I was there.

beautiful composition dear friend @ericvancewalton, when the words leave the heart is perceived, just as it is perceived in this beautiful poem.
Thank you very much for sharing something so beautiful.
I wish you a beautiful day

I'm happy you enjoyed it, my friend. Thanks!

I think I'm falling a little in love with Montreal after that. I've never been to that part of the world.

It's beautiful and a very inspiring place, Ophelia. I've often heard Old Montreal compared to Paris.
