I wish it rained last night
I wish it rained last night
Then maybe I would've
Pulled you closer
And smelt the talcum
Embedded within the
Deep ridges of your
Slender neck.
I wish it rained last night
Then maybe I would've
Heard the Tick-tock of your
Heart clock or the
Butterflies that continually
Flutter in your
Solar plexus.
I wish it rained last night
Then maybe I would
Rethink our state
And believe your apology
Maybe we would be
Better and forgive
The wrongs we've done
To each other,
And sing instead of
Complain each time
Threatening clouds convene.
I wish it rained last night
Then we would huddle
Inside thick fur
And hear blue blood racing
Through our youthful bodies-
But there's no rain tonight
It's still and quiet,
forlorn-looking trees squat
Outside the dark and pray
for the drought
To end.
Author's notes :
It's winter period and it doesn't rain now, some places in Western Africa are currently facing the weather known as "harmattan" which is characterized by dryness, humidity, heat and dust.
The poet persona misses the seasons of spring when it occasionally rained in the night and he would share such magical realities with his heartthrob and spoon. Theres no hope of rainfall anytime soon nor should any be expected.
The work is written in free verse and is unrhymed.
