INDEPENDENT BUT STILL DEPENDENT

DELUSORY FREEDOM
Independence waltz in with fanfare;
The question it poses-how have we fared?
With gong and jamboree of mirth we roar;
Despite the unified division...we soar

But we are still dependent...

Albeit, with circumscribed freedom we rear;
With a sinewy tenacity that is rare;
We are buffeted by insufficiencies in plenitude;
Pining away with inadequacies of immense magnitude...

Independent but still dependent...

Ravaging terror on the rise; our stigma, nay, pigment;
Displacement in our placement of apartment;
Independence with attendant payment

Independent they say; but still dependent.

At the becks and calls of the superpowers;
Pandering to our wishes at their whims and caprices;
Cap in hand; grovelling with effusion in humiliation;

Independent but still embedded…

Supperannuates at the saddle with dis-vision;
Drifted and buffeted with capricious revisionism;
Mind fecundity shackled; my mind it addled and rankled

Independent but still alienated…

A manacled mind; with ideological bind;
Avarice enthusiasm; probity indeterminism;
Poverty pervading bane; citizens writhing in pain.

Independence they say...delusory freedom we say,
Opportunity…benumbed boredom…all in vain
Sufficient but insufficient…Nigeria kingdom in uncertainty
Independence?...subsisting unpalatabilities prove otherwise.

Thank you so much. Even though there is nothing to celebrate in Nigeria because of acute and deep seated corruption beleaguering the country

Thank you @originalworks for the upvote. I appreciate

I will not believe that we have nothing to celebrate, Rome was not built in a day. Our only problem is leadership insincerity, however I still believe Nigeria will be great again.

Did it take Rome 57 good years to build? Leadership insincerity constitutes one of our myriad problems. However, our problems are not rocket science. When corruption serves as a motivating factor to get a post or win an election, then we are in for a rude awakening. To me, there is nothing to celebrate.

Yes corruption is our problem. Is all hope lost? No, its certainly going to get well one day.

I share in your bubbling optimism...let us hope it gets better soon because people are groaning and moaning.

Wow. This captures the present reality of the country and the attendant effect of being grown, yet we didn't leave toddlerhood

That is the unvarnished truth that has always stared us in the face rudely. We bear and grin our situation but lets keep the perk up
