FIRST POEM
This is my first attempt to write a poem so
I feel like asking you how did you know that
even the Sun had a dark side and
upon its flames I was about to stride
blindsided by the presence of my fears
(from cold waters had fallen a tear)
and tightly I stood and danced on papers
which used to be blank but concealed erasers and
locked years and older ages so
let me ask you about the ones fighting for their lives
inside the womb of maidens with no eyes
who demanded my rush of trying to stride on
fire of ancient and burnt times
long forgotten by the owners of knives that
had never tried to write poems.
. . .
I wrote this poem some time ago, when I was finally starting to get how English works (my first language is Portuguese). Consequently, my style nowadays is very different from what "First poem" displays. But, strangely as it may seem, I still like it very much. Maybe because reading the verses makes me feel very nostalgic. It was written with the intention of being a little confusing and nonsensical because, as the title hints, it's the first poem ever written by one of my alter-egos. Even so, in a sense, it was a kind of first poem, so it's confusing and nonsensical by nature.
As far as I'm concerned, I was an unexperienced writer playing unexperienced. Interesting.
