The Ocean and The Shell

"Dig a well well well."
said the ocean to the shell

"How far do I go
and what depth will I know?"

"Dig through hours
until days bloom moonflowers
find your way
'till I am where you seek
underneath the bright and bleak."

So I dug as fast
as a shell can displace
And I cleaned her mirror eyes
As I washed her shimmer's face

Encountering her treasure heart
where I met her silkened soul
pearly deep rounded within
where time cannot charge a toll

"It is you that I see
oceanfront and underneath
I just found another way
in this toil for you to stay

Like a vase filled with oil
like a robe enthroned and royal
a reflection ruled and reigned
sanding down my grooved remains

Till the love of the tide
and the love on either side
sees the sand and the sea
smooths the past once petrified."
