SOCIETY {written at age 18}

People might say I am ignorant and young
But I have seen my share of pain.
I have lived my life by word of tongue
With nothing to lose or gain.

I remember in elementary being so carefree,
Not having a single worry.
Society let you run, just to be
Not to be rushed or in a hurry.

I didn’t have an identity or name
I was just to do as I please.
Now my life is a game
Never strutting with ease.

Middle school was my first big scare
So many new faces to see.
I now had my handful of cares
I had to establish my identity.

Society now wanted to now where I ran
Asking a new array of questions.
Stopping my thoughts to what they can
Always emphasizing their lessons.

High school rolls around and I’m a mess
I know exactly what to expect.
People judging me on the dress
And what kind of jewelry hangs around my neck.

My friends start to change and turn
Leaving me to start a new.
Remembering society’s rule to learn
I do the only thing I can do.

I turned 18 a couple months ago
Now society says I’m an adult.
I do things that make me feel low
I do things like a member of a cult.

School was for education, I thought
and not auditions for a show
It’s one thing I wish I never bought
Going every day makes me feel low.

College is now on my mind
I don’t thing I will go.
I want to be the laid-back kind
Wasting mind that started long ago.
