Whispers On The Mountain - Killer Poetry Entry

Whispers on the mountain
Of a life left far below
The gorse and the brambles
The only home I’ll ever know
~
Lights flicker in the valley
But the darkness reigns supreme
The world has no edges here
Nothing is as it seems
~
Foxgloves hang their bells
Chiming with each breath
Hiding in such delicate beauty
Lurks a certain death
~
Skylarks enchanting rise and fall
Is really pleading with the sky
So great is this mothers love
She’s prepared to die
~
The forest filled with bluebells
Laid bereft by the fall
But the robin picks up the mantel
Carries on the wild call
~
The heather and the gorse
Refuse to give up hope
They may lose their pretty heads
But ne’er their green coat
~
The wilderness blooms and blossoms
And fades to grayscale
But life returns every time and
Flourishes without fail

My entry to this weeks Killer Poetry contest, inspired by walking up hills to watch the sunset across the plains. I was always more enchanted by the behind, the village in the valley below, but a spill of twinkling lights like stars in the darkness. I love the cycle of nature, where the hopeless always gives way to hope, and the seemingly beautiful masks the morbid.

Thank you very much!! There is no topic, no rules other than it is a poem, it doesn't have to rhyme, and can be as long as you like, which allows for a lot of freedom, give it a go! The deadline is today, but there will be another one next week - I look forward to seeing yours! :)

And thank you! There are always so many fantastic entries, so i am so chuffed to place!!
