Finally, we pulled the trigger, after an initial faffing around with crypto coins and top up vouchers and back and forth we went ahead and just got it sorted, both myself and @dayleeo have been wanting to start a podcast for a long time and we always found a way to get out of it.
Not the right kit, not the right input box, yada yada. You know the score.
So, recently on getting the green screen the conversation has once again returned to why not have us both on the green screen for our gaming nights and drinking nights, have some remote people come in to chat hopefully and maybe just also put out some podcasts on @dsound
Today, we pushed the button, did the thing and that stuff arrives tomorrow, kinda pumped to have broadcast quality mics to play with and to setup the box which looks ultra simple and will totally fit our needs, be great to have both of our inputs together, this way we can do video chats better too if we bring someone on for a show.
Because dayle is heading back in just over a months time (after being here for six months, man it’s flown by) it makes sense to try and get as much time together now so we are going to try and turn this into a 30 day challenge before she goes back and then carry it on our ‘show’ or ‘podcast’ once she is back taking one of the XLR single use connectors I have.
This of course means I’ll be looking at software, tools and pipeline process so we can record and put these out daily, they will be scrappy to start with they will be rough and ready but they will be authentic and straight talking, we’ve been wanting to work together on this ever since blab shutdown.
The best thing about this box is that I can start to take that journey into XLR mics, not that my current microphone — the apogee mic — is not the coolest little thing and I love the sound but taking it to the next level audio wise is now enabled with this box.
I mean a decent eq and compressor in between would be cool too but it’s a start - you really can end up going down a long road but this for now to be super portable is perfect.
Also when I do upgrade the iMac to a newer laptop then I can pack this and the lapel mic for doing interviews as well or when flying over to see dayle just hook them both up for video shots in nice coffee and food places we might frequent as part of the nyc project ideas I’ve still got to do. . .
Pretty stoked, I really needed a pick me up day seeing as it’s raining all damn day, it’s weird how energy returns when you stop and look, pause and then press play again, I’m gonna record my second video of the day for @dlive and then kick back a little before getting supplies from the shop.
(Which really means I’ll get on my laptop and write out the next bunch of blog posts that have been floating around my head in recent weeks)
pinterest epic wins pinboard → brand advocate for nokia, 1000heads, verisign → won vloggie for node666 (san fran 2006) → television for time team history hunters 1999 (burton on trent) → sold me.dm to evan williams in april 2011 → went to phil campbell, alabama to help raise money after tornado ripped up the town (was on sky news, bbc news)→ CNN for sxsw 2013 about austin south by southwest event → video chat with robert scoble from rackspace → music video can you spot me? → won the digital derry contest for 5k euros → crowdfunded digital signage concept called pi street → now living life through digital blockchains.
The Focusrite stuff is good quality. I expect you'll be happy with it
sweet, yeah we just need something as a good input, we thought this would do for now, mixer later! :)
wow nice very informational post. thanks for share
Love the Focusrite A2D converters - I'm using a apogee Jam24/96 for bass sketches on iPad and on Mac as it's super portable - been hanging over the Scarlett for a while for home studio.
Can't wait to hear your opinions on it P!
right on. yeah i've got a SINGLE xlr hook up device but needed something for dual lavs. should have it up and running and a podcast out later today on @dsound :)
