I Goethes drama Faust slår Gud och Satan, som här kallas Mefistofeles, vad om den lärde mannen Fausts själ. Men även Faust själv ingår en pakt med Mefistofeles, där han sätter sin själ på spel. Faust vill nämligen finna världens innersta mening, och Mefistofeles lovar att hjälpa honom med det, fast om Faust slutar sträva efter mer kunskap och upplevelser, då är det adjö med Faust. Det äventyret, essensen av den västerländska anden, handlar dagens samtal om, med Jalle Horn och Robin Holmgren.
