Being "Libertarian Enough"

in #podcast7 years ago

America is divided. Big surprise, right? However, it does seem increasingly divided into smaller and smaller pieces. Everyone is a part of a group. Every view has a label. Every difference people have has because a reason not to listen to each other and learn, but a reason to take up arms.

It isn't just this way between Trump and Clinton supporters, but within the tiny libertarian community. A big disagreement within the liberty movement is that of immigration. Those in favor of open borders see them as part of the "war on migrants". To those who say that, I say that a border wall is a war on migrants as much as a fence around my yard is a war on my neighbors.

Sadly, this issue is dividing the liberty community and pitting people against each other at a time when anyone who wants more freedom and less government is gravely needed.

On this past Friday's podcast, Tim and Ande discussed how purists are ruining the movement, and turning it into their own "cool kids' club" where the only way to become a member is by 100% agreement.

Thanks all! Have a great weekend!

Another issue dividing libertarians is whether or not your children have the right to buy heroin. I'm kidding. No, libertarians think the right to buy heroin shouldn't be infringed. Which is one reason I'm not a libertarian.

I enjoy learning about the pure anarcho-capitalist philosophy, but some people take it too seriously and alienate people who might be interested in leaving the GOP or Democratic parties for some different ideas. The LP scares newcomers away.

I do not like politics very much but I follow you!

Well, thanks! I promise I won't post only about politics. :-)
