I will attempt to be precise, but I admit I might fail in the attempt. You see, as someone who believes vigilantism should only exist in comic books, I can't be glad a CEO of a rotten corporation got killed. But, and I do not say this lightly; I understand.
For some reason the fact that we have a middleman mafia engrained into the system doesn't seem to bother people much. I mean, aside from those who make political videos about these types of subjects; the average Joe is just happy to have insurance himself.
All that being said, it's somewhat mind blowing to read all the testimonies people are sharing online. I mean, if there's a writer suffering from mental drought for a new Hallmark movie; Twitter or X as the kids call it these days, might be the place to look into.
If you dig a little about the subject, and you learn about these studies that have been published on the American phenomenon; you will find that even though we spend more than any other country in the world on healthcare, we rank #42 on life expectancy. Yes, it truly seems like we have a leak in the boat somewhere, and people are starting to radicalize.
Can't think of another time, aside from when Osama bin Laden died, when American people were united in righteousness about it. It seems like the symbolic nature of the assassination is the message most Americans were hoping to send the powers that be, but could not find a way to do so.
As you might know, he's been caught, caught in the most peculiar of circumstances. Up to a point, I'm having a hard time believing they got the right guy, more so because there's nothing about this kid's profile that would indicate such behavior. But, who knows what is going on in this kid's head. Who knows who he lost, or what triggered his obvious radicalization.
Is this the beginning of something? The beginning of systematic change?
Honestly, I don't think so, but I hope so. The way we are going points directly to radicalization, and if the people on top don't listen, things will only get worse.
MenO
As coming from a country where healthcare insurance is mandatory to everyone and where only the deductables can be something to choose from, to me the situation in the US healthcare is clear out criminal.
It cant be right when people have to live in debt their whole lives because they had a surgery. And that then the healthcare insurance makes a fuss about it? Utterly crazy.
No reason to kill anyone for it though...but somewhere you do understand the outrage of people
turns out Merica is the only country that cant figure this one out. It's obvious the reasons why, of course.
He made an interesting comment IIRC, that a man can clear his past sins with a significant sacrificial act. His family's great wealth comes from the healthcare industry. He worked in his family's nursing homes, which would have exposed him to any abuse the clients suffered that underwrote his family wealth. A man of conscience would have been wracked with guilt by such an experience, IMHO.
There are a lot of folks on the left that are suddenly at sea, the Democratic Party collapse has left them without that strong in group they were able to rely on for emotional support for so long, and BLM, Antifa, and the rest aren't really getting up to any significant protest lately. Latching on to what looks like action to oppose the actually deeply corrupt insurance companies raking in obscene profits from terribly providing awful medical care to Americans might really give them that dopamine hit they've been missing lately.
Thanks!
interesting detail about his family I've never nobody mention...
This case has stirred up a lot of strange responses. People have been celebrating the death, but it's murder and tragic for his family. Then there are fake Tweets attributed to Musk saying all business practices are justified for profit and now all sorts of speculation about the guy arrested.
The only good to come out of it may be more discussion about healthcare. Our service in the UK is good, but it's under stress. Making it about profit is not necessarily the best solution.
sometimes, more so when I succumb to cynicism, I take the position that I know democracy doesn't truly work here in America. Why? Well, because regardless of your political leaning the majority of Americans want single payer public healthcare. One one think that since it's the will of the people, the elected officials would be working towards this goal, but of course that is never the case...
In a simple yet all encompassing phrase: We are ruled by corporations.
This article looks like a good start for an explanation of the killer's motives: Alleged CEO Shooter Luigi Mangione Was Radicalized by Pain. It's remarkable that he wasn't an extremist and that his fans are from all over the political map.
In this climate, the Democratic Party should be deeply ashamed that they lost the election to a billionaire CEO who tried to abolish Obamacare, and this time said he had 'concepts of a plan' to replace it, which will make access to health care even worse.
the democrats have shown over and over they are out of touch with common folk.. I don't see them turning this boat around anytime soon to be honest. But maybe, the wrench in the gears that is Trump is precisely what America needed to rebuild an actual democracy. But first, it has to burn to the ground.
