Train A Dog To Eat Peas* And You'll Have Him Eating Out Of Your Hand
Prompt: Vitamins
“Eat your peas, dear. They're good for you.”
Gaag...
“They have VITAMINS in them. You want to grow up to be big and strong, don't you?”
I WANTED to be strong, but I did NOT want to eat my peas. For some reason, they were my least favorite of the bad vegetables. They always got mushy and cold, and were much easier to push around on the plate with a fork, than to actually eat.
But I had my ways. There was a rule, “you can't have dessert, or leave the table, until you're done with your vegetables".
No matter how hard I tried, the family dog would NOT eat a single pea, ushered under the table to her head, laid in my lap.
Something else must be done!
I learned it from Davy, my hamster that spent a lot of time with me on the piano keys during lesson practice. I used to watch him store up his corn I left for him up on the high-end keys. Into the cheeks it went. He'd actually get top-heavy.
Well, I'd show my folks a thing or two. Scoop the cold, mushy, gross peas into the spoon, stick them in my mouth, ruminate for 15-20 seconds, then ask out the side of my mouth to be excused to go to the bathroom.
Once there, emit them to the toidy, flush, run the sink, and head back out.
The secret was to make sure you left one or two peas on the plate before the exit to the loo. Just to allay any suspicions that might come your way. Worked most of...

*No, these are not Brussels sprouts. Or moldy Brussels sprouts. They're peas. Close-up. Right out of the freezer, for five minute freewrite photographic purposes. Then put back into the freezer for eating later

hehe :) I love the peas!
Thanks, I do like peas now. Think they were overcooked when young. Or from a can. So now, fresh is good, even frozen.
You do great on these!!! I actually have only done one and really enjoyed it! Great job, my friend!
Thanks (taking awhile to get back...duh). They are a lot of fun. And hard to do in five minutes. I'll go back and find yours. Hope to do more. But that little timer is WAY too fast for my typing O ;
Drat! That wretched buzzer! Now I'll never know...
What?

Inquiring minds must know!
I have found, having eat both US made and UK made peas, that American children due hate their sad boiled messes, whilst UK children (and adults) love their wonderful delicious Mushy peas. I always regret when in New England, that though we do a good fish and chips we do not serve them with mushy peas as they do in the UK. So when I arrive there I have to rush to a chip shop and nab me some fried cod accompanied by mushy peas! Mmmmmm
...
Worked most of...MY DAYS AS CHIP SHOP NEWSPAPER FOLDER?
The list just goes on and on.
Hee hee....and very late getting back. You would have loved my mother's peas then. Take them out of the can, then boil the stuffin's out of them to kill all those 'botchuloids'. Don't think she even knew what those really were. But sounds like we would have fit right in across the pond. Do you over-boil yours today, to have your mushy peas?
I have to finish this some day...but I love your guesses. Especially the paper folder. Afraid my world was just not quite as exciting as the DDA mind.
I must be an odd duck because I love peas. :D
In England, "mushy peas" is a thing for reals!
I did not know that, until @donnadavisart talked about it below. Mushy peas. Who knew. Sounds not so good, but guess it is edible, anyway. I must try them. Oh wait, I did, years ago. Hmm...
I love peas today. I think these were over-boiled from the can. So the fresh ones, mm mm good. And frozen are not far behind, if fresh is not around.
Frozen peas are much better - should have been an option!
Canned peas can be a bit...funky. They never hold up very long to the elements of the plate.
I can not eat canned peas - frozen peas great snack instead of the sugary options I often choose
Good idea. Yes, the canned are pretty bad. Kind of taste like a can of leaves. The fresh are best, and frozen will do quite well also. I like that idea of snacks. I'll try it.
nice pict contras good @ddschteinn
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Interesting concept!! Wish I could make my dog eat fresh food, so much cheaper and easier haha - he's an english bulldog and doesn't even eat the fanciest dog foods!! Upvoted and followed you, check out my blog I think you'll enjoy, if you get the chance!
You have to fool him. Mold them into pork or chicken looking things. Maybe.
I'll go check out your site, Thanks for stopping in and commenting and all. Muchly appreciated.
Haha love it! I love how some of the tactics employed by kids (or I know were employed by me as a kid anyway) are so much more difficult than just doing the task in the first place! I'd go through a routine of pretending to brush my teeth....just natural rebellion I guess! Following :)
It is amazing how hard they (we) will work (worked) to get around something. Just do it first, and it would be a WHOLE lot easier. Never gets through though. Not sure we're any different now, at times. Just larger scale. Writing or other things over peas on a plate.
Frozen...I am for frozen peas! And that pic. I should be the one eating that! lol.
Meanwhile, I have a special message from @marriannewest. I am today's #freewrite encouarger, and i was asked to stop by and make a special delivery: today's prompt: https://steemit.com/freewrite/@mariannewest/day-123-5-minute-freewrite-monday-prompt-fumigate
Apparently #frewriters missed reading from you yesterday and can't wait to read your next!
Thanks, they are good now, I like them a lot. Frozen works well, if fresh are not available. Plus you can use them in the bag for bumps and bruises ( :
I will get back to doing some more freewrites. Thanks for the reminder. They are a lot of fun, and an easy way to practice writing and storytelling. Writeon
