Mid-Week Premier League Report

in #pl7 years ago

As always the mid-week games this week did not let the PL fans down with a few mouth watering contests and a few upsets by the underdogs.
Here are the results
1)Swansea 3-1 Arsenal
Arsenal were favourites to win this one but their unpredictability came into play yet again as they threw away a 1-0 lead when Monreal put them in front in the 33rd minute but Swansea struck back immediately and Leveled the score a minute later with clucas finding the back of the net. Second half turned into a nightmare as J.Ayew and Clucas scored one each in the second half to put the game to the bed. Mkhitaryan made his debut and looked impressive but wasn't descisive enough.

  1. West Ham 1-1 Crystal Palace
This fixtures was between the relegation contenders and as expected both teams weren't ready to take risks. However benteke gave Crystal Palace the lead with after 23 minutes and noble converted West Ham's penalty to square the result which did not change till the final whistle.

Huddersfield 0-3 Liverpool
The reds faced a rare dip in form after the 18 match unbeaten run, as they were defeated by Swansea and knocked out of
FA Cup by West Brom, but as expected they completely ran riots at Huddersfield. Mere Can opened the scoring with a deliciously looking strike from outside the box which took a slight deflection which made it look even better. Then Firmino found the back of the net from a tight angle showcasing how good he is as a striker. Liverpool were awarded a penalty when Can was taken down inside the box and this time Salah took it and never looked in doubt and scored his 26th goal in the red shirt. All in all it was a good mid-week for Liverpool.

Chelsea 0-3 Bournemouth
Another upset came at the Bridge when Bournemouth completely walked over Chelsea in a match that saw th blues slip below Liverpool on Goal Difference.
Callum Wilson was the main as he scored and assisted a goal each, Ake put the game to the bed at the end with a simple tap in.
Everton 2-1 Leicester
The Sam effect is still pretty strong as the Everton new signing proved his worth by scoring two goals to earn 3 vital points for the toffees. Walcott looks good to go to the World Cup with England.
Vardy scored from a penalty which wasn't enough to earn points for the foxes.
Newcastle 1-1 Burnley
After swimming high with the big fish Burnley now looks set to finish in the mid region of the table as they couldn't get three points at Newcastle.

Southampton 1-1 Brighton
Nothing much from expected from this match and a fair 1-1 draw saw both teams saw both sides take away a point each.

Man City 3-0 West Brom
The 4-3 defeat against wasn't going to influence the tremendous season that City are having in Europe. There was no surprises in this match as City kept a high line with Laporte in the middle of the defence making his debut. Keeping the same form up City would win the PL in April when they face united.
Sturridge made his debut for West Brom and looked quite good and even came close to find the back of the net but couldn't. As it stands City are 15 points ahead of United and running away with the title.

Stoke 0-0 Watford
Stoke are now looking to fight their way out of the swamp that they are in and have 4 points from the last two games with the new manager looking set to stay in the league next season.

Tottenham 2-0 Man United
Pretty much the match of the mid-week but didn't catch up to the expectations as it was pretty much a one sided affair. With Tottenham having 22 attempts and testing the keeper 9 times. Compared to United's six attempts and 3 of them on Target. Lukaku is yet to have scored against the big guns of England in the Premier League and Sanchez had a nightmare debuted in the PL for united.
Eriksen scored the opening goal within 12 seconds of the game and Phuk Jones scored an awful own goal to put the icing on the cake for Tottenham.
