⛵ ⛵ ⛵ ⛵..."Brine Fatigue"...what is it...what are its symptoms...what can one do about it: Explained!
"Och aye, Brine Fatigue...it's a thing...an' Ahh wants tae explain it...
Sae yoo're an ambitioos, curioos yoong Laddie ur Lass an' ye discover "Th' Toor o' th' Mighty Frigate Silverton!" Och! Hoo fascinatin'! Hoo adventuroos! Ahh wants tae join th' crew!" Att's hoo it goes. Aae ye start followin' an' nae much happens. 'En ye finally learn 'att tae pure make onie progress in joinin' th' crew ye hav tae wark stoaner an' diligent, Upvotin' an' 'en Replyin' as ye learn mair. Still, nae much happens. Ye think aboot givin' up...but 'en, one special day ye see yer nam oan th' 'Stow-Away' list! "Och! Ahh'm close!", ye think tae yerself (Ain ye ur!) Sae ye keep at it, ye push oan...ain 'en one days th' reward comes...yoo're Cabin Loon #50 oan th' stoatin Frigate Silverton! "Hoorah!", ye greit oot, "Ahh've gart it!" An' 'en, in a week ur tois th' unthinkable happens...yoo've bin cest aff! Anither slightly mair ambitioos Laddie ur Lass has taken yer beloved #50 spot awa' froms ye an' yoo're back in th' 'stow-away' list (If yoo're lucky!)
Thes is hoo it begins. 'En one day ye dae git back on-board an' thes time ye're mair diligent! Ye climb up th' renk ladder a ways an' ur safe...fur a time. Mebbe yoo're huir uv a excited an' ye become a 'talker', a "mukker o' th' crew"! Mebbe ye hav real tenacity an' ye move higher - Seaman...Able Seaman an' 'en...one day mebbe efter months ur e'en years (Gawd forbid!), Ye finally make Pensioned Officer! "Yippee! Ahh'm sit fur life!", ye greit oot in joy! Aye, it is an accomplishment, but wi' higher renk comes mair responsibility, mair exposure- fowk git tae ken ye, ye cannae be annoymoos! Thes is hoo it goes.
Sae ye wark stoaner an' make friends, an' mebbe, jist mebbe ye wark yer way up intae th' higher officer ranks, Och aye, it can happen! An' ye think, "Ahh'm a leader! Ahh'm gonna contribute tae th' Toor! Ahh'm gonna be Commander one days!" Aye, att's hoo it goes.
Months gang by...yoo wark stoaner...years noo gang by an' everythin' slows doon! Aye, naethin' seems tae happen. Yoo've burst th' stoaner, toogh dyke o' th' heavy hitters! Competition is fierce an' dedication is high! An'...yoo're a main player. Yoo've sailed th' warld an' mebbe e'en gotten injured ur e'en faced near death! Aye, yoo've bin aroond!
But 'en one day it happens...th' heavy burden o' Brine Fatigue begins tae rear it's gantin heed!

Yoo're gettin' auld in th' crew! Mebbe a wee bit wabbit o' th' brine an' th' cramped quarters, th' sam auld scran in th' galley, th' stoaner wark o' helpin' tae rin th' ship- it aw' begins tae wear oan ye. Brine Fatigue...it's a thing...ain it happens. It happens tae most probably, e'en tae me! But Ahh've taken me vows...Ahh've lived me way o' life an' there's nae goin' back noo! But...not aw' men an' kimmers hav th' tenacity ur th' grit tae gang oan! Aye, it happens.
Some cannae giv onie mair an' they slowly start tae fade. Some fade faster, goin' AWOL fur a time an' losin' renk in a coorie! Aye, an' some giv up th' brine altogether an' slip aff th' deck an' ur ne'er seen again! Och!

'Att's hoo it ends fur some!
Wa' fur some an' nae fur aw'? Hmmm, Ahh hav pondered 'att question lang an' stoaner...

Ahh think thaur is a raur breed o' sailur...the kin' o' cheil ur hen 'att was simply born tae tak' 'att oath an' bond themselves tae their crew, their ship, their Keptin an' th' brine! Nut whit o' those 'att dinnae hav 'att in their bluid? Is it failure tae succumb tae Brine Fatigue? Nae! It's th' way o' it fur most tae be honest. Ahh've hud ootstandin' officers come aboard, climb th' ladder, leid th' toors, an' 'en... slowly fade awa' an' eventually disappear altogether! Aye, it happens. Aw' waves eventually disappear back intae th' brine. It's th' way o' it fur most.
But fur noo...ain fur me, it's onward tae greater adventures, closer bonds wi' th' crew Ahh loove an' tryin' tae bide healthy an' strang enaw nae tae be forced tae retire an' givs up me ship! Retire tae elgol? Och 'att wooldnae be aw bad, nae. Sally May will be thaur waitin' fur me! But...not tadays...ain nae thes year, hopefully, but och aye, one day, Ahh will gang haem, an' Ahh'll ken it when Ahhh feels it!" - Keptin Joshua Gavin Slane

Hi @bleujay!
"Aw' waur aince grand officers an' sturdy men o' th' brine!" 😉-Keptin
Each promotion requires more responsibility ,I completely agree with this statement. I would even add that it provides motivation, which drives the person with a better position, and therefore a better salary, to continue progressing and persevering, not simply remaining stagnant.
Let me tell you a little about myself.....My mother died, and I left my family and home country. I arrived in this country, stayed with a friend, and paid him rent. I started working every day, working hard to get my car. I achieved it. My new goal was an apartment. To get it, I had to work as a model—yes, you read that right. My boss asked me for help one time when the person didn't show up. I was terrified, but I did it. From then on, I was given this opportunity many times, and that's how I got my apartment. Now my goal is buy apartment, rent it out, and generate passive income. I'm 21 years old and have many goals in mind. I know I have to work hard and persevere, and I will, just like on the ship
"A grand life story o' sel-discipline, tenacity an' preseverance! Gang oan mukker!" 😉-Keptin
I've learned that life isn't all fun and games , it requires effort if we want to move forward.
I like to smile, make jokes respectfully.
I feel happy on the ship
"Ye add a lot o' happiness tae th' crew as weel Lad!" 😉-Keptin
