I am not the first, nor will I be the last, to start to seriously worry about the future of the human species' work. Although humanoid robots are, in my opinion, still quite far from replacing humans in work tasks, there are already robots with wheels or tracks that are taking over from us. And proof of this is the news I am telling you about today.

No soy el primero, ni seré el último que está empezando a preocuparse seriamente por el futuro laboral de la especie humana. Aunque los robots humanoides están, a mi juicio, aún bastante lejos de sustituir al ser humano en tareas laborales, ya existen robots con ruedas u orugas que si nos están desbancando. Y prueba de ello es la noticia que os comento hoy.

China has been developing advanced technologies to build roads more efficiently and with less human intervention, using robotics, artificial intelligence and automated systems. With this technology, they have built a stretch of road over 150 kilometres long, using ten machines and without the intervention of any human being. Además, al eliminar la presencia humana se reduce significativamente el número de accidentes laborales.

These machines far exceed human limitations as they can work without interruption in extreme conditions or perform repetitive tasks that are dangerous or tedious for workers, and automation can accelerate the construction of infrastructure, which is crucial for the economic development of countries.

Un ejemplo de cómo la tecnología está revolucionando la forma en que vivimos y trabajamos.

But we have to be optimistic because, while automation may eliminate some jobs, it will also create new opportunities in areas such as the design, programming and maintenance of automated systems. In fact, I remember that this same scenario occurred when personal computers began to spread in companies, which were also going to eliminate jobs. In the end, with "Windows" alone, millions of new jobs were created to do Bill Gates' dirty work.

Pero tenemos que ser optimistas ya que, si bien la automatización puede eliminar algunos puestos de trabajo, también creará nuevas oportunidades en áreas como el diseño, la programación y el mantenimiento de sistemas automatizados. De hecho yo recuerdo que este mismo escenario se produjo cuando se empezaron a extender los ordenadores personales en las empresas que también iban a acabar con el empleo. Al final solo con las "Windows" se crearon millones de nuevos puestos de trabajo para hacerle el trabajo sucio a Bill Gates.
