The COVID pandemic has changed many things about how we can socialize and enjoy recreation time all around the world. In Thiland, there have been more restrictions introduced on travel this year than when the pandemic first started. As a result we have found ourselves holidaying on one of the only places still accessible - the beautiful island of Koh Chang.
This island is a short ferry ride from Trat and is an amazing jungle paradise. It is incredibly quiet here and we are enjoying almost empty beaches. There is not a lot open on the island, this is partly due to low season as it is the monsoon, with heavy rain most days and rough seas but also in part due to the travel restrictions. Never the less, the situation has provided the perfect circumstances in which to fully relax as a family.
Here our boys enjoy the watching the waves hit the shore.
A few nights later we saw the most beautiful sunset in the same location.
It’s amazing how much thaw same location can change in different weathers.
Due to the lack of activities available, we have brought some workout equipment and tried to exercise every day. For the first week we were at a resort with no gym so we fixed a TRX suspension band on our balcony and used that as well as some PTP resistance bands and a 20kg dumbbell. This provided a good range of training for just a week.
The resort we stayed at had a nice pool and some slides which the boys loved and we had a few days of good sunshine.
After a week, we moved resorts to one has no slides but the pool was right by the beach. The sea remained rough and it was red flag for swimming the whole visit. You can see the waves in the background of this picture.
The new resort is also close to a local gym which offers a cheap monthly rate and we enjoyed some great workouts there.
Many places are closed but there are still some beach massage places open. Listening to the roar of the ocean whilst having a massage is incredibly relaxing.
There were many restaurants that had closed on the island but there was enough of a range of places open to keep us satisfied. We played uno most evenings when out eating which the boys really enjoyed.
To summarize, Koh Chang is a really great place to visit and highly recommended, even during a low season and a pandemic.
