Really dangerous playground equipment

in #pictures5 years ago (edited)

This is my first post on Steemit so don't expect any sort of wonderful creations until i figure out how it works. haha

I live in Thailand, and i joined Steemit because I saw some literature about Steemfest when i was in Bangkok. It sounded interesting so here I am. I don't really know what to focus on but I am looking forward to seeing what this group is all about.

While this probably isn't interesting to most people it is to me, so here are some pictures I took of a local park in my neighborhood in Ayutthaya, which is about 2 hours north(ish) of the capital city.

The instructions tell people to crawl all the way up this thing, which i think would open up a lot of opportunities for head injury, especially since the ground is hard and the "logs" themselves are made of cement.

While there isn't anything terribly dangerous at first glance here, the parts where the various swings are attached to whatever you are sitting on are unsealed and would gladly welcome a shoe or part of a foot to be compressed to almost certain injury

Possibly the safest part of the playground, on closer inspection I found that the metal is actually extremely rusted, and has simply been painted over leaving many sharp edges

This monster was moved over to the side recently to make way for a presentation of some sort a few months ago and god only knows how they moved it since it is a solid piece of cement. It is easy to imagine the various dangers that could be introduced by a giant piece of cement with curved sides that invites children to climb on it.

Life is very different here than it is back in USA and I don't believe that the Thai people should attempt to mimic what is done in America as I think we have gone overboard there as far as preventing all possible injury is concerned.

If you get injured on a playground in Thailand, you are just a kid who got injured and there is no chance you could sue anyone for your mishap. I think this is a good thing and it encourages better parenting maybe.

Anyway, I know this is a weak first post but I am going to take a bit to figure out how all of this works but am looking forward to participating more as time goes on.

Sort:

hey pal, and welcome to Steemit. I hope you end up liking it here as it is nice to have another Thailand person in the ranks. I was in Ayuthaya for a few days about a decade ago. We were there for a school field trip because I was a teacher at the time.

As I am sure you know, the safety of this country well, doesn't really exist and sometimes it can be shocking, kind of like when a tube that kids are meant to crawl through has some sort of something or other than can cut them when they are playing. However, I don't like the way that in USA people can sue (and win) for just about anything like that.

You may wish to do a post over at #introduceyourself or #introduce (I'm not really sure which one it is, use both to be sure) and as always i would recommend using steepeak instead of the standard steemit interface... IMO it is simply a lot better.

I'll give you a decent upvote so you can get past the damn limitations of the resource credit thing that new users face so frequently. I look forward to see more posts about your time in Thailand.

Thanks for joining, and welcome.
