With In this blog we will name some of the Award Winning finest Photo Journalists that have done incredible work as Citizen Journalists in recording events, incidents, living conditions, culture and people.
Photojournalism creates images in order to tell a news story. A camera is one of the greatest medium to capture people, state and emotions and these journalists have been acknowledged for their work worldwide and will be remembered with their names in the history of mankind:-
Steve Mc Curry:
• He is recognized universally as one of the finest image-makers. He has captured the essence of human struggle and joy. He is recipient of numerous awards.
• Magazine Photographer of the Year
• First prizes in the World Press Photo contest.
• Won the Olivier Rebbot Award twice.
• He also published several books with his name.
He is world renowned National Geographic Photographer known to own several incredible images. But I’d like to mention one of the classic photographs from his collection that moved me. She is Sharbat Gula who famously known as Afgan girl. She was approximately 12 years old at the time. She made it on the cover of National Geographic next year, and her identity was discovered in 1992.

Lisa Kristine:
• Acclaimed HUMANITARIAN PHOTOGRAPHER creates more than images.
• Lisa has received global attention for shining a light on contemporary slavery across media platforms, including CNN and Reuters, speaking at TED events, museums, NGO’s, business conferences, colleges and universities.
• Christie’s New York, in celebration with Kofi Annan, has auctioned her images to benefit the United Nations.
• The Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the Queen Mother of Bhutan and Amnesty International, have all endorsed her work.
• Her work resonates in the heart and moves us to act.
Slaves in the Ashanti region of Ghana. They spend each day descending down 300 feet to mineshaft to chip for Gold. One misstep could lead to death.
Kishor Parekh:
• Ex-chief Photographer of Hindustan Times.
• Covered Sino- Indian war of 1962 and 1965 conflict.
• Best known for his work on the Bangladesh Liberation war of 1971.
• His book on the subject Bangladesh- A Brutal Birth was a landmark document.
• His work appeared in numerous magazine like Nat Geo, Paris Match, Sunday Times, Time magazine to name a few.
MIKE WELLS:
1981, winner of the World Press Photo of the Year singles: After working as assistant, this British photographer became a freelance photographer in 1974, shooting around the world for Save the Children UK. Wells won the World Press Photo of the Year in 1980. Mike wells, photographed and showed us the hand of an Ugandan Boy held by a missionary. This image strikes us a reminder about the disparity in this world.
KEVIN CARTER:
Pulitzer Prize winner photographer, Kevin Carter who captured Sudanese ‘struggling girl’ with vulture in 1993 famine in Sudan.
This is child crawling Award winning picture by Kevin Carter at local feeding centre in Sudan. He is an epitome of famine in Sudan that year but he also given a message that photojournalism can be extremely daunting when people started criticizing for their responsibility. His act of just capturing the image considered as an ‘inhumane act’ of not rushing to save this child. After undergoing huge amount of stress and guilt, he ended his life. But his work of documenting some of the most gruesome places of the world left an indelible mark on the planet’s consciousness.
JAMES NACHTWEY:
Reflections on the Rwandan Genocide
This picture is a symbol of Genocide which took place in Rwanda. This Hutu man was in one of those concentration camps who were tortured brutally. He then managed to survive once freed.
RAGHU RAI:
This Picture was made on the Chemical Disaster in Bhopal during 1984. He was awarded Padmashree’ in 1972, National Geographic cover story “Human Management of Wildlife in India” won him widespread critical acclaim for the piece. (1992) and Photographer of the Year from USA (1992).

We can also contribute as Citizen Journalists and can create awareness or sensitization about any happening or wrong doing in our society but we should save the mankind first whichever way we can if we are in a situation to do so.
