A cocoon or pupa (the Latin pupa, 'doll') is one of the life stages of an insect undergoing metamorphosis. This phase is found only in insects that have metamorphosis complete, which includes four stages; embryo, larva, pupa, and adult. At this stage the body structure of adult insects begin to form and the body structure larvalenyap. Cocoon is generally inactive and can not move (sesil). The cocoon is generally encased in a protective layer such as a cocoon (eg silkworm cocoons), nests (eg bees), or shells [1] and often using camouflage to outwit predators.
The pupae of different types of insects have names that can vary, for example called "christmas" for Lepidoptera.
