"MyPictureDay" on and off the Beach in Hawaii

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Aloha,

I have decided to participate in a photo contest!! Wish me luck! @timsaid I hope you like my entries for #mypictureday.

The pressure of my business can be drowning. I attempt to overcome this pressure and re-pressurize by not drowning, taking on waves and swimming with ocean life.

When the conditions are good, they are good. Standing waste deep in crystal clear water, no wind, and a beautiful blue Hawaiian Sky.

Sandies at the surface-2.jpg

3 miles off the shore, in pelagic waters, a sandbar shark's dorsal fin breaks the waters surface while investigating a leaf floating by. Sharks are a very misunderstood apex predator, not the 'Man eaters' the media world have you believe. They are the white blood cells of the ocean keeping it healthy, they pick off the sick, dead, dying, and weak in the ecosystems. Here is how irrelevant peoples fear of sharks is. Sharks kill less people a year then SELFIES!! Yes, Selfies are more dangerous then sharks. In fact, sharks kill less than 10 people a year, but the flip side is sickening. Humans kill around 70 MILLION sharks a year, yes, 70 MILLION!! Don't be afraid of sharks, be afraid of driving your car or getting bitten by a mosquito (both kill way more people a year then sharks).

Hawaiian Green turtles, Honu, are magical to encounter in the water. They are true voyagers migrating up to 1000 miles to return to the same natal beach they were born on, to nest as adults. Honu use the geomagnetic imprinting to remember the location and use it to find the water after they hatch. It is so extensive that they will change nesting beaches if there is a change in the earths geomagnetic field. In Hawaiian folk lore it is said Polynesians used Honu to find islands because they were sure to locate an island in the middle of the ocean.

I am trying to refine my blogging skills and my production on #Steemit so any input would be greatly appreciated!

Erik

I was thinking to start taking selfies... But now... Maybe not haha.
Jaws movie made a lot of damage to the sharks . It is sad.
I like to see and read about the turtles, sharks or any animals from there that I don't have here. Very nice post!

Thanks a bunch!
