The Crown Vetch is a leguminous plant native to Asia. It can be found all over North America in most fields and valleys.

Crown vetch (Securigera varia) is a small herbaceous plant that is commonly used as a soil improving amendment. Its strong root system is great for holding slopes together and it can often be found growing near highways and hillsides. It has since escaped cultivation and can be found growing in most open areas.

Looking closely, you can see that its flowers are multiple pink and white legume flowers. The same structure as the flower of beans, peas and so on. This plant is often used as feedstock for animals, especially sheep and other ruminants. It is a slow grower, often taking 6 months to germinate and several years to achieve full ground cover.

Always remember, a plant that's called a weed just hasn't found a use yet.
