TimTravels - Adventures in Bali: Uluwatu Temple

in #photography7 years ago

Hello and welcome my dear Steemian friends to a new episode of TimTravels, a Steemit exclusive series!

As is known all good things come to an end and so did my recent South East Asia journey. Two days ago I arrived back home and I'm still a bit jet-lagged. One thing should be made clear at the outset: I already booked my next flight to start a new adventure soon. Guess where?

Secondly, I am happy to tell you I collected a lot of content I will post over the next few weeks on Steemit. You will see how I went diving, snorkeling, some exciting jetski action and much more!

Although I was only away for five weeks I learned a lot of precious things. Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer. All the people I met, the delicious food I tried, the memories that won't fade away. It makes you richer. There is one thing in particular that made me think a lot. Why is it that people that have a lot complain more than people that have less? I met poor people that never forgot to smile, I met wealthy people that lost their smile.

However, as for now, it's time to show you more of what I saw in Bali! Today we will see the famous Uluwatu Temple which is located in South Kuta, Bali.

Apperantly the Ulutawu temple is one of the main touristic attractions in Bali, a real must-see! (click here for the coordinates). So we decided to pay the temple a visit. Not only because of its stunning surroundings, but also because of the monkeys! You already might know that I love these monkeys! I still have a second post of Ubut for you.

The first thing that came to my attention was the big "no-drone" shield right at the entrance of the temple. To be fair it's important to respect the local rules so I left my drone in the car and didn't bother with trying to fly the Mavic. As a tourist you should always follow the rules to avoid any incidents. You wouldn't want people to come to your house and do whatever they want, right?

Although some rules seem to be akward. For instance rule number 4! Anyone has more background info on that? I'm curious to know what's the reason for this one. It obviously has to be of religios nature.

As you have to dress properly I had to cover my knees with a purple cloth they gave me at the entrance. I think it's fancy! A pity I had to return it back, I found myself enjoying my new style.

And here we are! Right at the Uluwatu temple and if you look closely you will notice all the monkeys! It's pretty interesting to observe them. If they see any plastic bag or food in your hands they will simple jump on you and try to take it away. Even your sunglasses, your smartphone or other interesting things are not safe. If it happens that they steal your phone or any other beloning you literally can trade them in for some fruits. They will bring you back your phone and take the fruit. However, it will make them even more greedy and they will expect more food from you!

Speaking of stealing things. No it's not simply trash someone threw away. That little friend just stole the bottle from someones bag. He jumped to his back and took the bottle from the side of his bag. The monkey was even so proud of his loot that he wanted me to take a picture for you.

Walking past the temple and many trees I arrived at the beautiful scenery everyone was speaking of. The temple is located on a 70m high cliff from which you can see the sunset! Do you also have to think of the Great Chinese Wall looking at these pictures?

At the end of the path people gathered to watch the sun go down and take, just as I did, pictures. I really do recommend you to check out the Uluwatu and it's worth the drive to the south of Bali. The best times are in the morning and right before the sunset. It wasn't as crowded as I expected and you will have a great time there. Although the monkeys are cute do not ever forget they are wild animals that potentially could harm you. So always keep a safe distance and don't try to touch them.

Thanks for reading this episode of TimTravels and hope to see you again!

There is a picture of people walking and you say:

if you look closely you will notice all the monkeys! It's pretty interesting to observe them.

lol
I like that purple style btw, very stylish! :D

Haha! You got me

You outrightly calles them monkeys 😩😩😩

Wow! I thought Indonesia is all muslim. :)

Although the archipelago of Indonesia is the world's most populated Islamic nation, the island of Bali is predominantly Hindu.

Thanks for the awareness

Welcome to Indonesia, Do't forget to visit Sabang island in Aceh..

Those monkeys are really domesticated. Those shots are really crisp and you managed to catch some amazing shots even without a drone.

I couldn't care less about you downviting my comments. However, if you pull this on my or anyone else's posts in #filmphotography then expect a visit from @duplibot @steemcleaners and @abusereports. You are already 1 or 2 ill advised downvotes and comments away from copping a permaban.

Beautiful travel photos!

Photography of the monkeys are really a nice one they are simply enjoying their life

To be fair it's important to respect the local rules so I left my drone in the car and didn't bother with trying to fly the Mavic. As a tourist you should always follow the rules to avoid any incidents. You wouldn't want people to come to your house and do whatever they want, right?

I like this piece of sentence. It's true, if we want to be honored then honor others, so if we visit a place, respect the culture and rules they hold, so they can kindly accept us as guests.

Regarding rule number 4, I believe it's based on the beliefs of the people around, since the temple is a place of worship and considered sacred, there are rules in worship and guarding the sanctity.

If you come to my place (Aceh), you will also find rules based on religious advice, all of them are there to make you more comfortable and feel like family for them.

By the way, thank you for sharing your trip's experiences in Ubud (Bali) and the amazing footage of the pictures.

"...rules...are there to make you more comfortable and feel like family..." @iqbaladan, I am totally borrowing this for the B&B I run! As an anarchist and unschooler, I really struggle to formulate positive ways of communicating about boundaries, both in my internal dialogue and my communications with others. I love this - it's perfect! Thank you! <3

A wonderful journey, my friend, Bali has always been famous for its nature and ancient monuments and your excellent photos confirm this! These monkeys turned out to be excellent and interesting to see them in different places, they are part of the excursion. Nature Bali admires its beauty against the background of rocks and the sea! On account of the violet fabric, I think, maybe it's a national sign or something sacred for the Balinese, for example in China, it is a symbol of nobility. Thank you @timsaid

Wow.... It's really great travelling and I totally agree with you that it makes one richer and in addition to that it equally educates one because you get to learn and the history and culture of those places you have visited and also learn the way of life of the people and you get to eat different kinds of dishes apart from the ones you are previously used to.

I can still remember my trip to China, it been a while but the memories are still fresh in my mind and the experiences are unforgettable. Beautiful and outstanding photography you have here of nature, animals, places and people, I trust you had a wonderful experience with your previous trip. Thanks for sharing this @timsaid and I wish you many more wonderful experiences and fun in your future trips.

am glad you are sharing your experience in Bali

Awesome looking this photography,I appreciate your traveling....keep it up my dear friend......

Ansa still keeps the best photo photo in Bali. whether you are hard to forget the island of Bal

Located on south-west side of Bali, Uluwatu Temple is approximately an hour’s drive away from Nusa Dua or Kuta. The beauty of this temple is its unique architecture.

Wellcome to Indonesia. You can see another place what beautiful for travel. Maybe, my friends - @batuejourney - give you a information to travelling in Indonesia.

very nice post brother 😊👍

Hello I hope you can rest and catch up with your things, espro show us your next trip and know a little more corners of this world, that place is very nice it seems that there is a lot of fresh air and a lot of peace

The rule number 4 is also obtainable in most religious places in Nigeria. It is believed that such women are unclean and they'll defile the place of worship. Beautiful pictures by the way Bali is definitely a must visit

Some sick views and even sicker monkey photos, they are so photogenic haha ! What's the reason for them not allowing drones ? Privacy ?

Perhaps to respect the temple, not disturb the animals by the noise? I don’t know

While I do have to agree buddy Travelling is indeed one of the best thing that we can come up with ,while learning from doing that is indeed the best thing !

Will sure be looking forward for your coming posts and all the adventure that you have been through :)

No wonder The Uluwatu Temple is one of the best place to be and the view from up top is indeed a beauty .That scenario from that place and just being there could be a heart warming feeling that anybody can come up with. While the side view of the mountain that you took is indeed very beautiful !

True, didn’t see that one lol

Great post, spent allot of time in Bali myself (Ubud)
You are right - Buy experiences - not material things!

Word! Memories last forever.

ooh sick!! ive been to this place!!!! its really stunning and so many beautiful views!!

Yeeaaah you can visit this place and another. As same as Bali, like Maluku, Ambon, Mataram, Sulawesi, Mentawai, Aceh, and many more

What beautiful pictures! You definitely made a great trip! Thank you very much for sharing with us these photos that take us to these magnificent settings. I share with you when you say that the people who have the least are the ones who complain the least. I am a Social Worker and I have had the opportunity to talk to very humble people, but with a great inner richness; people who have not lost their capacity to smile, to share what little they can have and, above all, to love. Thank you very much for your thoughts and beautiful photos.

Ah! I love doing Bali! Did you go to the ghost hotel yet? ITs massive and completely abandoned

Beautiful :)

hi you, you can follow me not, thank you very much!

I was not in Bali. But now I have made this trip thanks to your photos and story! Thank you!

Come and communication with @batuejourney if someday you want travelling to around this country

Thank you, I will keep in mind

Exotic temple. Real cool

Bali selalu menjadi destinasi menarik buat siapa saja dan selalu kita ingin kembali

It is a great landscape, I have to choose the photos, and I had not given the monkey's account, this time pending the horizon, only the sharpness of the image makes me feel the salt water that breathes on the footbridge of that mountain, not that I have no idea it is the temperature but hot do not see. @timsaid
