Each week I'll be creating a photo diary of somewhere I've been or something I've seen!
I'm going to start with Sri Lanka, one of the most beautiful countries I've ever had the pleasure of visiting.
I recently spent a month there, backpacking around for the first two weeks and then driving around the whole country in a Tuk-Tuk/Rickshaw with two friends!
First up, I'll cover the backpacking part. I headed straight away to a town called Mirissa in the south. It's famous for it's beautiful beaches and whale watching - both of which I was lucky enough to experience in their full glory!
The photo at the top of this post was also from Mirissa and is one of my favourite photos I've ever taken. It actually just won a competition on Steemit HERE!
After Mirissa I moved on to Udawalewe National Park, known for the amount of Elephants that are roaming free! I was lucky enough to get one to pose for me:
Next up it was time to jump in the tuk-tuks! Spoiler alert: we didn't die!
It was all part of an event called the Lanka Challenge. There were 13 teams and each of us had to reach the next hotel before the sun went down. Sometimes we were driving up to 250km a day, running out of fuel and asking locals for help. But eventually, we all made it safe and sound.
The amazing thing about it is that you got to drive through the real countryside and see a lot of the rural areas - places you wouldn't normally go to on a typical holiday. For example, we got invited into a local families house to have lunch with them, completely in the middle of nowhere!
It was 10 days of driving across the country and seeing some amazing things. Eventually, we ended up at Sigiriya Rock - which is the most famous and most visited place in Sri Lanka.
Just enough time left to have a few beers in the pool with this view, before we had to fly out again!
The month absolutely flew by and I always now recommend Sri Lanka to anyone who asks for a destination idea. If you get the chance, 100% visit it and you won't be disappointed. It has beautiful scenery everywhere and some of the most friendly people I've ever met.
Who here has been? Has this made you want to go?
Let me know below!
Thanks,
Jord
I also made a video about it -

Never say never! I'm sure you can do it eventually.
Very amazing captures friend.
which device did you use?
Aren't picture 2 and 6 from drone??
Hi! Yeah that's right. Mostly I use a Canon 80D and then the two drone shots were from a Phantom 4.
Ok, you've sold me on Sri Lanka ;)
It's an awesome country, definitely in my top few!

It's really amazing. Isn't it? I'm so proud of my mother country. Glad you enjoyed. Many foreigners visit here and the Steemians too!!!
Yeah it's a beautiful country! Where abouts are you from?
I' from the Gampaha district in Sri Lanka
Thanks for this ... my wife and I are planning to visit Sri Lanka this December / January.
Awesome where are you heading to?
I'd recommend Mirissa and if you get a chance the head to Ella - the train from Kandy is insane.
It turns out we're not going to go after all. We were going to stay in Tangalle area, southeast tip. As it is, we're heading to Isimangaliso Park in South Africa.
and in here there's one of my favorite photos :)
Which one?
