Apis Dorsata

Hello guys ... How are you to afternoon !!!

In this post I will discuss one of the insect species that are often found in the environment around us.

In fact, did you know that the bee species itself has the smallest bee compared to bees in general.

In bee colonies there are honey bees which always produce honey with the aim of providing a food supply for the colony even though some of their honey is utilized or taken by humans. Therefore humans classify them into social insects that are rich in benefits. So whatever is produced by honey bees is known to be efficacious for the health of the human body

The scientists of the world classify them into the Order Hymenoptera which means clear wings. Then they put them in this order, so that when they are calculated there are 100,000 species of insects, including bees, wasps, ants and termites, butterflies, and other insect species.

From observations that have been discovered by insect experts, there are several species of bees that have been known, such as,

  • Apis dorsata
  • Apis Laboriosa
  • Apis Mellifera
  • Apis Florea
  • Apis Andreniformis
  • Apis Cerana
  • and Apis Koschevnikovi

🐝 Among them are the famous Apis Dorsata species

Apis Dorsata is one of the honey bees that still exists in the forests of Indonesia, even often found playing and nesting in the villages. This bee has a large size when compared with honey bees in general or often called giant bees, also referred to as forest bees, wasp gung, odeng, sialang honey, or Uneo uteun. This honey bee lives wild and to find out its existence is very difficult and honey farmers say it is still difficult to cultivate because besides its aggressive and ferocious nature, it is very difficult to be tamed.

🐝

Honey farmers are very fond of cultivating Apis Dorsata species, although it is very difficult to find or tame, this is due to the influence of the location or place of the nest often located in a very high place and far from residential areas.

For beekeepers, they really like to look for their hives because the honey they produce is very good or can be said to have the No. 1 quality among other honey. Although the nest can be found and depends on tree branches, but it requires special expertise to take the honey, this is due to the influence of the fierce behavior and dangerous stings that make people reluctant to approach the nest.

The beekeepers will very easily take the honey if the nest is attached to the attic of the house or steep rock, because it is easy to reach it when compared to the hive attached to a tall tree. In general, there is a colony inhabiting a comb whose size can be very large and exceeds the capacity of honey in cattle bees.

According to a honey hunter who lives on one of Aceh's hills, he said that in one tree it might reach,

5-10 colonies. Apis Dorsata's main products are honey and candles with honey reaching 10 -20 kg per colony per harvest.

So in this case honey hunters really like honey from large nest production, sometimes it can reach 30kg / nest. The resulting honey is called forest honey.

Thus a brief description of the insect species of bee which provides many benefits to humans in the form of honey. Thank you very much.
