Little Bits of Life Caught on Film

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

Yes...I know it's not actually film anymore.

But anyway, over the last couple years I managed to be in the right place at the right time to catch some of these little guys. Outside of the snail, the could have quickly and easily scurried away due to being camera shy (or cause of some giant bi-ped cyclops looking thing gazing upon them.)

So, even though there's no doubt that baby Praying Mantis's exist...I'd never actually seen one. This little guy could have stood on a dime and still had a little room to spare.

While I've seen grasshoppers around for years, rarely have I managed to get this close to one without it scurrying away.

I'm sure many of you have seen opossums around before, marveling and how ugly they can be. However, as a baby they're freaking adorable!

Compared to some of the other insects and animals, snails are some of the more forgiving models. They give you all the time in the world to find the ideal shot...even if they do give the look of "What the heck are you doing?"

While not exactly the same sort of life as the other pictures, I still get the same vibe from this one. I love the all the moss that's built up on this little waterfall.

And of course...the obligatory Kitty pic! And yes...he controls the tv remotes!

Certainly an interesting look through the lens @skyochica. I'm scratching my head trying to remember when I last shot film, I think it was around 10 years ago. I miss not knowing what you get until you get your prints back.

Thank you!

Hehe, yea...I can't remember the last time was I had a camera that took film. I definitely can understand the excitement of seeing what you got after they were developed. I remember hearing something on the radio years back that talked about the things we loose because of that, since we tend to delete the digital ones that don't turn out. But with the film ones...you can catch things in the backgrounds but not notice until years later.

So true!

OMG that opossum is sooooooo cute!!!! The rock face is marvelous, I really like the age it shows and the flowing water is very peaceful to me. As allways your kitty is friggin adorable!! I posted some photos of my puppy awhile back, he is certainty very kitty like lmao, so where as I totally am a dog person I have a healthy appreciation of how wonderful a feline can be. :-)

Hehe, ty! I had actually watched the momma opossum walking around for a few weeks with the babies hitching a ride by holding onto her fur. They finally got a little to big for that.

I love going to that waterfall! There's a nice little bench in front of it where I can chill and meditate a bit...especially when there's no other people around. Lol

Hehe...Gizmo says thank you! Ooohh..I'll have to go check out your cat like doggy! My cat's actually a big opposite...being very dog like. Everyday he greets me at the door when I get home. Lol

Tehe! Awww we dont have opossums in colorado so to me they are just adorable, kinda like troll dolls where lmao. I hear they can be a pest but goodness they are so cute!! Like rats i suppose.

So lovely! I bet its wonderful!

Eeeek that sounds so adorable! :-)

Hehe, they're like pugs. So ugly they're cute!

I'm here for the kitty pic! <3

Hehehe...Ms Kitty might get jealous! :P

Great pictures!

Thank you! :D

Nice pictures - getting that close to your subjects is amazing. Wondering about the story of getting that close to the possum baby...where was Momma I wonder?

Thank you!
That was shot off the porch of my apartment, where I'd seen the momma opossum wander around for couple weeks with the babies hitching a ride on her back. I just happened to get lucky with this little guy wandering up to the porch after he'd gotten big enough to go off on its own. I just had to be really quiet to not scare it away. :)

Nice... mantis reminds me of my childhood moment. There are many mantis that we can find surround our environment because still many trees, plants, grass...:)

Thank you! Oh nice!!
That would be pretty cool! I don't get to see them very often and outside this shot, had never seen a baby one. It was soooo cute :)

I used to work at an emergency vet clinic years ago. Someone had a pet opossum they brought in. I don't remember his name but he stayed with us for a few days. He was awesome.

Not bad. All living creatures are fascinating.

Thank you! I definitely agree! I love watching things scurry around. :)

Very nice Pictures! Nature is such an amazing thing! And that was a cat? I thought that was a lion!! Lol. Very nice work!
