Super, Blue, Blood Moon

in #photography7 years ago

I think I was awake most of the night in anticipation of the Super Blue Blood Moon eclipse that was to happen around 5:00 A.M. Arizona time. Our bedroom window is right at our heads so I can take a peek every so often, and then, it started.

WHAT IS A SUPER MOON (dictionary meaning)

"The phenomenon whereby the moon appears particularly large in the sky owing to the coincidence of it's closest approach to the earth"

I leaned my camera on my pillow and aimed constantly adjusting the aperture to see what the best capture I could get. In our family, I'm the painter and Roger is the photographer so I was just winging it.

MY FIRST PHOTO OF THE SUPER BLUE BLOOD MOON ECLIPSE

After I took a few more I kept seeing the "planet" just below the moon. At first ,with my imaginative mind going a thousand miles an hour, thought another planet had appeared suddenly with the "SBBM".

Finally showed Roger and he explained that NO, we weren't being invaded by an intergalactic death star, but it was the reflection of the moon on the lens of my camera.

WHAT IS A BLUE MOON (dictionary)

The phenomenon whereby the moon appears bluish owing to the smoke or dust particles in the atmosphere. Or the second full moon of the month.

The shadow moved across the moon surface faster than we thought. I couldn't see "red" with just looking at it but the camera lens did. Propping the camera once again, moving a dog over and getting in a comfy position, I got this shot.

WHAT IS A BLOOD MOON (dictionary)

The phenomenon whereby the moon in total eclipse appears reddish in color as it is illuminated by sunlight filtered and refracted by the earths atmosphere.

Finally I took one last photo before crawling down under the covers and falling asleep. Being out west on the border of California and Arizona and in the desert with no additional lights, we were fortunate to witness the very best of the event that hasn't happened in 150 years.

Roger will be posting his images later today so please stop over and see them @rwedegis . They are truly spectacular.
