The Strange Creatures of the Sea

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Have you ever wondered what was just below the surface of the sea in Hawaii?
While most people are swimming along the surface or even doing a little wave catching with a surfboard,
perhaps even standing to enjoy some cooling ocean water on a warm day.
Many do not realize all the wonders that is just below them,
I wonder would they still be there or would they leave if they saw strange creatures?
Some of them are dangerous, while some are just passing by.
Well I was one of those who played along the surface of the sea
not knowing what was just below me. I swam and jet skied, I used surfboards
and all the other floating things to enjoy the water.
But one day I borrowed a snorkel set and I found a whole new world,
I was amazed at all the wildlife just below me.
At first I just saw a few fish and was amazed how it seemed like I entered a new world.
So of course after that first time I bought my own snorkel set and diving fins and my
beloved soul mate bought me a gopro, I was set to go out and explore,
I would go out when the ocean was calm early in the mornings between 7am and 9am
while the beach area was quiet and nobody around. I found that when I was the only
one out there I got to see so much more.
I found out where the sea turtles hang out and would follow them when they went
looking for seaweed to eat. I found an area that I could see a whole family of turtles
which is truly a treat to see these docile animals just floating along.
As I got to explore even more I saw many other creatures I've never seen before
like seahorses, needle fish, stingrays, sea snails and slugs, lionfish, rockfish,
helmet gurnard (looks like a butterfly or moth as it walks across the ocean floor) I swam
with a school of hundreds of tiny fish all around me and each day I saw them get bigger
over time until they went out to the deep sea where I don't go, I saw protective
damsel fish that make noises when you get close, Eels of different colors and sizes,
puffer fish that have the most beautiful eyes, and so much more.
At first I was afraid of some of these creatures but found that if I just take some
photos and move on, they won't get to stressed. Everyday there was something new
to see and I am amazed at how much I could have missed had it not been for trying
something new like snorkeling. So if your up to seeing something new and you got a friend
to go with you, you won't be disappointed and you don't need to go far to see something
exciting and once you do you will be amazed at the strange creatures of the sea.

Nice pictures Suzie!

You were very lucky to find a Seahorse. I've been diving lots of times and I've never seen one.

The seahorses are very hard to find and I had to be careful who I showed them to because some people take them and keep them in personal aquariums. Then no one gets to see them at all. I do feel blessed to see them when I did.
