Tongariro Alpine Crossing - My New Zealand Hike Fest

Hi everyone and welcome to day three of my New Zealand Christmas hike-fest!
Today I am doing the so called Tongariro Alpine Crossing. It’s rated as one of the best one day hikes in New Zealand and if the last few days are anything to go by, I know I won’t be disappointed.
Tongariro became the first National Park in New Zealand way back in 1887 so you know it’s going to be stunning!
The crossing takes in three volcanoes so I knew it was going to be a good hike!

Weather wise it’s another brilliant day of sunshine and the bluest skies. Perfect for hiking - I read in local information for hikers to watch for sudden changes in the weather but I think this time of year is more predictable in that respect.

The colour of the lakes along the way is magical. It’s summer right now which is the best time for enjoying their incredibly vibrant colours. In winter the snow comes and ice covers these lakes and they disappear completely from view.

I feel tempted to come back in the spring to see the beauty as the ice melts as I have seen photos of the ice breaking up as it recedes and the colours of emerald and white are breathtaking.

It has been another amazing experience - so much fresh air and sunshine is always therapeutic.
I am feeling exhausted yet energised. One of my favourite ways to feel lol.
