Mountain lakes are known to geographers as tarns if they're caused by glacial activity. Tarns are found largely within the higher reaches of Himalayas, above 5,500 metres (18,000 ft).
Tilicho Lake is the destination of one of the most popular side hikes of the Annapurna Circuit trek. The hike takes extra 3–4 days. No tenting is needed, as new lodges are built between Manang and the lake. the final approach to the lake is completed during a day hike from the lodge at Tilicho Base Camp.
