Road Tripping East Coast of Canada Day 2 Montreal to Riviere du Loup, Quebec

Day 2 Montreal to Riviere du Loup, Quebec Featuring Quebec City

Woke to a spectacular sunrise. Spent several minutes enjoying the beautiful scenery. Then we descended the mountain and toured Montreal for an hour or so. Our main destination for the day was Quebec City.

Ever since I discovered one of my original ancestors came to New France in 1665 as a part of the Carignan Saliere Regiment I was keen to find out any information about him. With a lot of digging I was surprised to find a street named after him in Bourg Royale. My heart was beating in anticipation of standing on this street.

And here it is! Rue Le Roux! The original settlers of Bourg Royale built their homes in a circle and their land spread out behind them in pie wedges. The thought was they could better protect themselves if they were all close together. In present day Bourg Royale they have given a nod to the pioneers and built the roads in a circular pattern. Rue Le Roux runs through the very heart.

Next on the agenda was Old Quebec

The streets are relentlessly quaint. A postcard view around every corner. The St. Lawrence River makes even the hottest day seem cooler.

In Montmorency Park we found fantastic people, statues and cannons. Huge trees lend plenty of shade.

My Husband and pups were a hit with tourists and locals.

A truly lovely place to spend an afternoon. All too soon we needed to move on. Somewhere ahead we would find a campground for the night.

After a long day we found a nice campground in Riviere du Loup. The couple who ran it spoke a little English and I spoke a little French. With smiles and hand gestures we managed to book a camp site bought some dinner to cook over the fire. Nothing says camping like hot dogs. Lol!

What a great day. Wish we had had more time to see places like The Plains of Abraham or to sit and have a leisurely lunch along the St. Lawrence but our itinerary was aggressive, as you will see.
