Parashant Canyon and the Unikaret Mountains

in #photography7 years ago

This is Parashant Canyon located on the north side of the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon National Park. To the left are the Unikaret Mountains and across the valley in the distance lies the First Nations Hualapai Reservation.

This is all part of the Grand Canyon - Parashant National Monument, where there are no paved roads into the monument and no visitor services. The 1,048,325-acre (424,242 ha) monument is larger than the state of Rhode Island. (Research Source

Here is a link to google maps for the location of this beautiful place.

That flat spot in the immediate foreground is called Grassy Mountain. On the distant horizon we can see the snow capped Elden Mountain.  I lensed this image early in the morning while flying around the north side of a fast moving rain storm in mid spring.

This image is from my ongoing project in which I am trying to raise awareness of the 47% of the USA and 90% of Canada that remain unpopulated wilderness.

Where Eagles Fly - The American Wilderness Expedition is my personal mission to introduce people to these amazing locations that surround us.
