How I shoot aerial wilderness imagery

I’ve been asked a number of times if I really am a pilot and really do shoot my aerial images from an airplane. I will post an image or two every once in a while that show how I do this work.  

This first image above is a screen shot of my working on the edge of the cliff overlooking the Colorado River where it exits the Grand Canyon below Pearce Ferry. I have landed and am camping on the edge of the cliff and filming the beautiful scenery as the sunsets.  

This next image is an in-cockpit close up screengrab of me shooting the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the San Luis Valley over the Zapata Ranch area of Colorado.   

It is very important to realize I am constantly looking around me for other things in the sky I may need to avoid. Even a bird strike if it is large enough can cause severe damage to the aircraft so I am always on the lookout for birds, other airplanes, weather balloons and even swarms of insects.
