A Much Needed Vacation, and the Beautiful Detroit Skyline

in #photography7 years ago

Detroit, Michigan catches a lot of negativity, but my experience in the bustling city has been the complete opposite.  It's like anywhere else.  There are good parts, there are bad parts.  The downtown area has undergone a complete face lift over the last few years, and what was once a dreary, drab, grey city, is now vibrant and colorful.  A fantastic mix of old and new architecture.

My girlfriend and I took a much needed mini-vacation over the weekend to Detroit.  We managed to nab a pretty corner room that had a great view of most of the downtown area of the city.  I was blown away at how the city has changed in the 15 or so years.   I am not a professional photographer, so go easy on me . . My Galaxy 7 sure got a workout last weekend though.

Roughly the same shot of above, now in daylight.  I definitely like the night time look much better

If you squint, you can see the Hard Rock Cafe on the right hand side

Picture quality loses some pixels after uploading.  Either way, we had a great time.  Things had been getting a little stressful.  And it's such a great thing to be able to hit the reset button for a night, and just spend some quality time with someone you love.

Woah nice pics.. So i guess the City central is more like nicer place?

Oh yes, absolutely. The downtown area has been completely redone in recent years. It is SO much nicer than what it was when I was a kid. A whole ton of new construction. New businesses. New sports stadiums. Downtown is a place you can bring your family now. I love going down there when I get a chance.

Okay nice! Btw is there any Automobile industry anymore? It seemd there was alot that before, but I wonder like do they have anything left.

Oh YES! Much of the industry has moved into the surrounding areas, but there are still quite a few in the city. Sadly, a lot of them closed down . . . but the revitalization of the city has brought back some of the car manufacturers. And there are still gigantic operations centers in Dearborn and Warren.

Ok, intresting to know. Thanks for that info! :)

Detroit is such a great city, with an amazing rich history!

Absolutely! Love your name too. I grew up in the area and whenever I go back home I get nostalgic.

Thx! I just seen this today, I had none of my notifications on. What area did you reside in?

For the weekend, I stayed at the Greektown Casino/Hotel. But when I lived down there, I was right on Fort Street really close to Trumbull. Right down the street from the large Post Office.

Truthfully, I miss living there. I loved all of the new architecture and activity. The city is ALIVE now and moving in such a good direction.

Omgoodness bro, it's such a great place to hang out dude!
