"May the Festival of Lights bring lots of joy, peace and prosperity to you and your family"
Dear Steemit friends! Today I shall tell you about the Indian festival of Lights, Diwali :) Diwali is celebrated all over India with lots of vigor and enthusiasm. The story goes back to centuries old when the Lord Ram (Hindu god) returned to his kingdom of Ayodhya (now in the state of Utar Pradesh, India) after defeating Ravan. The entire city was lit with Diyas (earthen oil lamps) in the celebration and that's believed to be the origin of the festival of Diwali. This festival holds a great significance for the people of India and is celebrated with equal enthusiasm by almost all religions :)
This year I too celebrated Diwali with my family. There are many folds of preparation for this festival. First of all the entire house is cleaned along with the surrounding areas. People take part in this with great interest as it cleans the entire locality and it is believed that Gods and Goddesses visit the area which is clean ;) After the cleaning is done, houses are decorated using lights which range from colored electric bulbs to Diyas. On the eve of Diwali night worshiping is done after which people indulge in bursting crackers, some play card games, while some prefer to just enjoy the beauty of it all. This year was no exception and I also helped my family in prepping the house for diwali and then decorating all of it. I also clicked some pics of these, hope you will like these :) !
Rangoli made of Diyas
House decorated with lights
Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can
May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out
Stairs lit blue and pink
Every thing is transfixed...
...only light moves
Light like a candle in the darkest moments of someone’s life
Moonlight drowns out all but the brightest stars
There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in
City bathed in Light
Very nice photography
Thanks :) Hope to share more such posts :)
