A while ago I was on a cruise in the Tyrrhenian Sea, with a crew of friends. We sailed along the Sardian and Corsican coast, exploring offshore islands and secret bays.
One day we had the extraordinary luck to spot one of the most spectacular swimming objects ever built, the Sailing Yacht A! One can always debate about design yet from an engineers viewpoint the construction of this ship really pushed the envelope in shipbuilding technology.
Just 9 months after being put into operation we found the sailing giant lying at anchor along our route. As it happens in such unforeseen events, my DSLR's battery was empty when needed and I had no backup battery at hands (amateurish, I know). Fortunately, my iPhone had some juice left (a rare violation of Murphy's law) and so I was left at least with something to capture the event.
If you are interested in all the record specs of the A and how it was constructed I recommend reading this article here.
And there she lies in the evening sun, the A.
Getting closer.
The A was constantly orbited by other ship watchers.
Check out these colossal, unstayed masts. Carbon fibre makes it possible.
Garages for tender and jet ski. There is another garage for the ship's own submarine. No kidding.
Goodbye A. Fair winds and following seas!
Smaller yachts have their appeal, too.
Time to find an anchorage before night falls.
Thanks for watching and 'til next time!

Now that looks like a decent piece of engineering! The "traditional" smaller yachts are more appealing to me though :)
Here is my latest catch as for ship photography:
It is a cruise ship MSC Opera that I captured when it was docked at a port in Havana, Cuba. A big one! :D
I feel the same, I prefer the classic ones, too.
This is some nice photography buddy.
Which model of iPhone?
I think he clearly wrote
Okay I saw that in the end lol
That is a monster. I saw a documentary on the design of it a while back and it us quite an engineering feat.
Btw, the first pic is excellent. There is a story in there.
A monster, that's it indeed.
Thanks for the compliment, I also like that first picture very much. I think it's the reduction on ship, sea and cliff that invites to think about a narrative. The Odyssey comes to my mind. Like the very moment before blinded Polyphemus appears at the top of the cliff in all his furore, hauling rocks after the escaping ship.
That'd do it :)
@shaka, Wow, awesome stuff for sure and this ship is really huge and in my opinion for sure people will going to visit here because, this place is just awesome to explore and this ship is reflecting as Sky Touching for sure.
And good to know that in summer season you've explored this place and for sure these kind of places will refresh us because water view is one of the aspect where everyone wants to spend their occasions.
And in 7th picture we can see Sun as huge fireball for sure and it holds amazing and powerful essence. We all wait for these kind of beautiful weather because these kind of weather can really heal us.
And in same 7th picture at right side we can see an green stuff in the sky, in my opinion it's an Reflection effect but it's reflecting as some kind of green planet is becoming visible and it's great to watch for sure.
Wishing you an great day and stay blessed. 🙂
You are right, the green ball is a lens reflection that is very typical for the iPhone in counter light photography. Most of the times I don't remove it since conveys a special will-o'-wisp-effect that often fits nicely to the scenery.
Yes, it's really giving that add on effect. 🙂
Woohoooo, really cool!
This yacht looks like a “James-Bond-stealth-comando-central”. Also the grey finish/color makes it look like it is made out of concrete.
Totally! :D
Aha! It doesn't matter whether you have a DSLR or a smartphone. Your photographs are always clear, bright and treats for eyes. The big yacht was remarkably grand and beautiful.
However, I could not understand your following lines:
Thank you!
Well, I was joking that if something can go wrong, it usually does go wrong. Meaning that according to Murphy's law the battery of my iPhone should have been empty, too.
Danke Dir!
Thank you @shaka for posting these photographs of this 'spectacular swimming object' as you have called it.......a rare catch indeed.....a sailing yacht.
Appreciate you bringing this beauty to Steemit.
All the best from bleujay/bentleycapital.
Cheers!
Thank you!
Wow, einfach nur wow! Unglaubliches „Segelboot“!
lovely pix
First the moon. Then fiber carbon yachts. :D
Damn i wouldnt be far off if i said that yacht costs as much as half the steem market cap. Alien ship if i ever saw one.
I'm afraid to say that even the entire Steem market cap wouldn't suffice to buy this ship. 400 million Euro is the alleged price tag ;)
Damn.. We need one yacht whale here. :D
Congratulations, Your Post Has Been Added To The Steemit Worldmap!

Amazing shots @shaka, thanks for sharing!
There are times that I am really jealous seeing these photos! In a good way of course ☺️One more reason why steem has to climb and give us financial freedom and plenty of free time to enjoy what world has to offer...
As for the photos...just amazing and really detailed once again dear @shaka
Shaka how are you? what majestic images you present today, can you ask for more beauty of nature? I do not think so
And the yachts are definitely the complement of so much beauty
Greetings from Venezuela
Hello my friend @shaka I am listening for the first time about this sailing yacht A good that you had a spare battery at hand hahaha these things usually happen in the best moments
Beautiful design the truth impresses me the mechanism with which this yacht is working
For cases like these always have to charge spare batteries hahaha this time your iPhone worked well, I take good pictures

I congratulate you friend and thank you for sharing. @shaka
So lucky you caught the sunset! :)
Indeed. ;-)
I will check out the post you linked later, as now I'm really curious about what is so special from an engineer's perspective.
Beautiful scene
