Stop Motion - The Popcorn Dance

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Popcorn is one of my favorite go-to snacks.

Lately, my husband and I have been enjoying making kettle corn on our stove top with our Whirley Pop. If you'd like to try the yummy recipe we use, here is a link to a pin on Pinterest:

A couple months ago, while eating some of this homemade kettle corn, I decided to dabble in a bit of stop motion. I love photography and video, so I felt that this was a fun way for me to merge these two passions of mine for a creative project!

For those of you who have never created a stop motion video before, I'll share the process with you.

1 // Grab a camera and a tripod. Set up your camera on your tripod aiming at your desired subject.

2 // Take photos one after the other (keeping your camera & tripod sturdy and in place), but in between each photo, move your subject ever-so-slightly. This movement should be strategic so that once your images are all put together, you will have created something meaningful.

3 // Upload your images onto your computer into a movie making application. (I use Adobe Premiere).

4 // Make each of your photos appear for just a split second in your video timeline in order to create the "video" looking effect. Length of each frame is left to personal preference.

Voila! You have a stop motion video!

This was one of my very first stop motions ever created, and I ended up winning First Place and $75 in a video competition at Brigham Young University- Idaho with this very video! This video was posted to Instagram for the competition, so it was intended to play as a continuous loop over and over, but I couldn't get the video to do that on youtube. If you'd like to see the video on my Instagram, check out @sarahrodebush.
