Longwood Gardens Visit Part II!

in #photography7 years ago

The history behind it and what the Dupont family has done for our country with this gift is just incredible. They went all over the world to find things to put in this great place. From Italy for the water gardens alone the attention to detail is breathtaking. Thousands upon thousands of flowers abound to delight the soul. A thousand plus acres of paradise for the senses to enjoy.

This is our third time we visited this amazing place and each time we see something we didn’t get a chance to see before as this place is massive. The gardens, greenhouse, water fountain, waterfalls, pipe organ, the hills...is it all is incredible. I really don’t believe there’s more than two or three places of this magnitude in the US.

Ever-changing and always stunning tulip display is undeniably gorgeous, but what is it about the tulip itself that draws so much attention and wonder? Why are we so attracted to this seemingly simple flower? The answer may go far beyond the tulip’s beauty and instead is within mankind’s fascination with the unattainable...

The mansion and grounds contains an enormously large organ composed of 10,010 pipes divided into 146 ranks. The Longwood Organ is the largest Aeolian organ ever constructed in a residential setting.

Beautiful inside and out, the original home was built in 1730 and enlarged several times throughout the centuries. The house is open to guests and contains the Longwood Heritage Exhibit, a collection of historic photos, artifacts, home movies, and video that tells the story of the stewards of the land who preserved and developed the property including beautiful and breathtaking detailed hand crafted dollhouse miniatures and scale miniatures.
