Well that was a fantastic World Cup for me! Being half English and half Spanish I had two team to support..
And okk both my teams shattered my dreams. What's new? ... Spain played a phenomenal 20 minutes against Portugal which made me think that that their chess board heads were gonna ace the competition no problemo, whoever the manager - until Ronaldo scored that sumptuous free kick and then somehow, it all started to unwind. Aaaand still can't get over England not capitalising on that early goal when Croatia were punch drunk, thinking WHEN would they get such a lucky path to glory again. So I say fantastic because I got to see Russia with my family and satisfy my curiosity about what lay behind that mythical iron curtain - well definitely more hipster than prole. Pick any superlative out of the hat when it comes to the architecture, food and culture. Tho the football/culture combo was exhausting - Rembrant - check, Da Vinci -check. Run! We've got 10 mins till kick off!
We met some lovely people who somehow managed to reserve us a table to see the Russia - Spain game. The free vodka shot per goal helped the anguish but not in getting home as it went to penalties! It was great to beerily high five/sing/ dance/ shout with people from all over this football mad planet. Well done Russia! You organised a perfect World Cup!
Ill leave some pics taken that try to show the great vibe around Russia during the tournament!
Take care and be careful with the Russians they said! Didn't see a single incident, hats off to them all for organizing a great World Cup and keeping security and highest levels, as a traveller I collect bank notes from all around the world and I was lucky enough to meet a Russian man in a random bar at high hours of the morning who gave me this special World Cup edition One hundred Rubles note and in absolute mint condition!
And a couple of snaps of places in the amazing St Petersburg.
And im not going to lie, going to miss pouring those chilled summer beers out in the sun at the fan zones while watching the games with a great crowd!
Once again thanks for the read, please follow and up vote!
