Crystal-clear lakes and beautiful mountain-birch in Sevettijärvi
Sevettijärvi is a small town or a village 20 km from the Norwegian border in north-eastern Finland. It is literally in the middle of nowhere. There is only one road which goes through the wilderness there. The mountains there are not too high, but the nature is still amazing. The landscape is quite sandy, and we actually found few beaches at the shores of these lakes.
The lower altitudes in the landscape are filled with beautiful lakes and sandy areas. Here are some pictures of the lakes we visited during our journey. My previous post about Jänispää was located not too far from here. Maybe 5-10 km to the north, and there you can see photographs of the higher altitude terrain.
If you want to see more of the swamp nature of Lapland, please check out my post about a stunning bird reserve which is located about 50-100 km south-west of Sevettijärvi.
I couldn't find the real translation for these trees,
so I just call them mountain birch "Betula pubescens subsp. czerepanovii".
It is a subspecies of downy birch "Betula pubescens"
This is a "leuku"-knife I bought for my wife in Näätämö, at the border of Norway. Usually I have made my journey in Norway, but this time we decided to stay in Finland due to limited time we had, and the fact that Tahvo "Toblerone" "Örvelö" the Lapphund does not yet have a passport.
Thanks for watching!
