Awhile back a friend of mine asked me if I would come and take photos of her first swim race since she started training again for swimming. her and I were on the swim team years before in high school. I was happy to help and came out to see how the race was and get some photos, I didn't realize how nostalgic it would be and I had a lot more fun than I thought I would.
The race began early and was held at a local lake downtown. There were alot of people attending the race and many more spectators. As the race was beginning to start everyone came from everywhere slapping , jumping, shaking and rotating arms in preparation for the event. Goggles everywhere glistened as they sat impatiently on top of heads glistening in the morning sunlight waiting to straddle the wearers to protect their eyes. . Every one wore different color caps to signify which race they were in( as there were multiple going on at the same time) which would determine how far/ how many laps around the bouyes they had to swim.
As the race started the was a roaring rush as everyone's. arms and legs began kicking and splashing all at once, here you can see a few of them as they took off in different heats, but in reality there was actually proabably 150 swimmers there easily.

for those of you that have never been through the nail biting edge of your seat experience that a swim race is, well let me tell you. Its really not that crazy or fast paced, but on a nice day its a fun thing to be a part of for sure.
alot of the spectators sat along the waters edge while more sat up on the grassy hill behind them over looking things.
I kind of liked standing down under the bridge shooting. there really wasnt anyone there and it had a neat look to it.
In the end the day was beautiful. the race was a success, My friend placed very well in her heat actually, and she is now on her way to being a triathelete and coach.
There were even medals for those in top places. all swimmers and coaches had a great time.
