introduction :
drowining is a common cause of death , being one of the three primary causes of accidental death in the world. each year around 10 million people worldwide find themselves in an emergency situation in water. almost 10% of them , namely over 1,200,000, do not survive the immersion and thus die by drowning. somewhat more than half of them are children and .young people.

the very nature of such accidents means that they are quite often in remote areas and the victims are generally assisted by laypersons or lifeguards, and to a lesser extent by physicians. accordingly, there is often only a small number of non-fatal drowning cases followed in hospitals equipped ofr more extensive research. it is therefore understandble that on this issue, few reliable statistics exist.

the problem of drowning is a complex set of sequential harmful influences on human body because of its presence in a liquid environment. giving a clear picture of this complex set of influences is not always easy.

the purpose of this course is to make this picture as transparent as possible so that the lifeguards wil be able to act more effectively and gain the required knowledge in this respect
