2017 California Wildfires

in #photography7 years ago

Here are some images I took will seeing what wildfires look like. This is the Thomas Wildfire in SoCal. It's taken some 250,000 acres of land. Much in the Los Padres National Forest. Access was very limited but here is some of what I saw.

As a transplant to LA California. You only hear about the decade old drought! You never see the empty river bed.

It's always a merry x-mas, an happy new year.

Not this year. Or last year. Or the year before that for much of Southern California. There is talk that the speed and intensity of the fire was at an unfathomable strength. They are right.

This guy lost his business. He also happens to be one of the few people in the world who can shoot a sighted gun like he can. He's an icon of the old west...He's checking the safe right here to see if some history has survived.

The firefighters came from all over the state. Hundreds have been parked in the city limits of Ventura. One lost a life, the wildlife loss is tough to imagine.

They say that last years immense rainfall sparked a growth throughout the land, causing so much new growth that you could see the spring flowers from space. I can only imagine what that would have looked like. Unfurtunatley, this new growth was the bedrock for why there are so many fires this year. With a .3 inch rainfall on the books, and at some 15% of the rain they this area should have, it's no wonder that the fire spread as quick. The fire was covering miles within mins.

Here is another vehicle I found. The windshield got so hot it melted the glass. More evidence for some that this catastrophe could be more then just nature at work. I only say that because the victims and I couldn't understand how the fire could melt glass but not touch other equipment not 2 feet away.

At the end everything comes full circle one way or another. What's hard to swallow is that humans can be tricked so easily. What we see is what we believe, regardless of whatever we saw. Because if I didn't know better I would have just thought the sunset was just especially beautiful that day.

Thank you for sharing these. It is horrifying and at the same time it is a reminder that there are forces way greater than us and how grateful we all should be for each day given to us.
