I promised to show you where the sunbirds stay to avoid the falcons and other predators!
And oh yeah, there are many hunters around on the apple farms. The little sunbirds have found a secure place to keep them safe not only from the flying predators, but also from the wild genets and the mongooses.
Sunbirds have no defense against the predators, but they are clever little birds and I will show you where they stay.
Have a look!
Here's their safe house! The granadilla plant has invaded a tree right next to our cottage, to such an extent that you can hardly see the tree anymore! About 5 species of sunbirds live in this bush and they fly all over our garden.
A perfect solution. The mongoose keeps them safe from snakes, the dogs keep them safe from cats and no falcon can enter the tightly wound tendrils of the granadilla bush. Did I say that they are clever little birds?
Whenever they hear or see one of these guys around, they simply flee deep inside the granadilla bush!
And now for a surprise!
My first ever Amethyst Sunbird. What a beauty!
Just like the dragonflies, there is no time to set up any shots, but rather to point and shoot immediately!
I don't know where the Amethyst Sunbird stays, but he arrives out of nowhere, sips from the granadilla fruits and instantly takes off again. Indeed a beautiful bird.
We hope you have enjoyed the pictures and thank you for visiting a post by @papilloncharity
He's beautiful... Hope he's considering moving in... :) The sunbirds are pretty, aren't they... Cheers, Stephen!
Thank you my friend, but they are very secretive and I don't think that they will move in here. I love sunbirds! Blessings!
Wish we had them here.. I don't think we do...
Edit: seems I'm wrong, I just searched and found there are, but in the highlands where its cooler, I think...
Bali has highlands?
Hey, @papilloncharity that's so beautiful!

Thank you and totally agreed! Blessings!
Stunning little bird, good comparison having the flower to estimate how small this bird really is Stephen.
Sunbirds are quick moving from plant to plant, dazzling you with speed and beauty.
Thank you Lady Joan and I am sure that many won't realize their small size. I am almost sure that they have dragonfly genes Lol. Very fast little guys! Blessings!
