Fiddler on the beach, not on the roof!
Technically, these Fiddler Crabs happened to be on the mainland, so they are not exactly "South Padre Island Crabs." However, my recent crab photos are being run in that series, and since they were just across the bay, I figured I'd still run them here.
It was not even until after I was looking at the photos that I noticed that these crabs do not have the same big claw. One is "right handed" so to say, while the other is "left handed." I'll include a proof of each. Here is a left handed one hanging out with some friends.
Anyway, after mostly only seeing these guys at pet shops, it was nice to see some out in the wild, having fun in their natural environment. Like many other crabs I met, they were extremely fast, but they paused long enough for me to get a few good shots.
I think I've got a few more very interesting varieties of crabs that we found which I took some good photos of, so I'll keep you posted.

Really great pictures @papa-pepper --I remember catching little sand crabs on the beaches of Northern California as a kid. So much fun. I need to get back to the ocean soon.

In my head they are like Batman but without the cloak and are ready to disappear in the shadows ahaha
They have big claws, I would be afraid to hold them in my hand :)
LOL Dude you would run fast also if everyone was out to catch you and drop you in a pot of hot water to eat you! Bunch of cannibalism going on to them ;-)
Their are alot of types of crabs @papa-pepper there is also have an spider crab...it has full of beard...im trying to catch one here..but they move fast..i cannot take close picture cause i dont have a good camera..i only use android phone..but if i had a change ill take a picture just for you..😊😊
@papa-pepper My kids laugh so hard when they see crabs with two different sized hands. It is funny to see how they observe the natural world from a perspective that is so curious and simple.
That being said, fish probably laugh their gills off when they see us weird humans with two eyes on the fronts of our faces....lol

STOPgreat shot, it must be very hard effort to shot the crab that always moved fast, I love the first photo that show the funny crab traying keep his face being shot, really impressive. by the way I've just post some photos of sunset that I used a simple camera, I used my phone. it was very hard challenge to keep my phone saved from the flying water because of the waves crashing the rocks, please check this out then give me some comment to create better photo in the future. thank you for sharing

Hello @papa-pepper, just a question, is it natural for them to have 1 big and 1 small claw like that or it's a kind a malformation?
I don't know if it's only me, but i feel that they have the look of Captain Hook!!!

that is how fiddler crabs are, I just didn't realize that they could have either claw be the big one.
