πŸ„ HUGE YELLOW TREE FUNGI PHOTOGRAPHY πŸ”₯ BURNED TRUNK OF WILLOW AS PERFECT HABITAT 🌳 NATURE BUILD WONDERS III 🌈

in #photography β€’ 7 years ago (edited)

Dear Steemit friends,

today i discovered with my kids a burned tree. But not rare enough we saw many yellow spots on the trunk from a distance and as we approached we recognized that these spots are yellow tree fungi all over the trunk in great amounts and size from bottom up to 5 or more meters. Wow! i'm always surprised by that vivid yellow color the younger specimen have!

I'd seen this type of fungus before but now i'm was curious and researched a bit further. This fungus is also called Gemeiner Schwefelporling or Laetiporus sulphureus. One astounding fact for me was that young specimen of them are eatable!.. if they growing out of the not poisoned tree 😜 and what's even more surprising.. they should taste like chicken! πŸ— Honestly, i'll don't try that. πŸ˜‰

They appear beside Europe also in all continents and very often especially in germany. He penetrates the tree via open wounds and destroy his heartwood first and then his sapwood which causes wind susceptibility and risk of breakage. Not nice!

He is a parasite which causes brown rot and can lead to death of the host.

For me the perfect smooth and rounded surface is always fascinating combined with the bright yellow color.

Great pictures @onetin84. The contrast of the burnt tree with the bright yellow fungi is fantastic, thanks for sharing :O)

Thank you for kind words!

Nice pictures!
Parasitic fungi like L. sulphureus serve a vital function in the forest. They usually attack trees that are old or damaged. By removing them they allow for sunlight to pass through the forest canopy and create room for new trees to grow, which helps capture CO2 from the atmosphere. Finally, the mushrooms eventually get eaten by insects, giving back to the ecosystem.

Very interesting! Thanks for the additional information. Nature looks always for balance it seems.

Thanks for sharing and great pics. They look like popadums growing out of the tree lol. Nature never ceases to amaze me.

You're right! They looking very similar with the wavy edge.
